Just wanted to say that this will be my last comment on here.

It's been a great 6 years and through all the good and bad times, these DVD forums have an incredibly helpful and peaceful vibe.

Hopefully the classic series get re-booted at some time in the future whether that be in blu-ray, digital or even UHD.

Special thanks to Theophile for his amazing work and dedication.

Peace!

Anyone else noticed the dvd version of the magicians apprentice is slightly different to the transmitted version on bbc1? Looks like an earlier edit has been used as just before Missy is exterminated the renegade dalek iris effect is missing.

Well, I am staying on until the last light is turned out, so, with Series Five, Part One being released here in the US tomorrow, that makes the list:

Spearhead From Space Steelbox Blu-Ray: UK: March 28th
The Complete 9th Series: UK: Released, US: April 5th
The Underwater Menace (finally!): UK: Released, US: May 24th
Series Five, Part Two: US: May (?)

It does look as if we may only have a couple of more months, but I am still hopeful for the finding of some episodes or for some more (Series 1-4) Blu-Ray Releases.

Today I ordered Four to Doomsday (118), Snakedance (125), Warriors of the Deep (131), Vengeanace on Varos (139) and Timelash (142) from my local Barnes and Noble. They should receive them for me during their sale next week.

That will leave me with just Arc of Infinity (which they couldn't find) and, of course, The Underwater Menace, for 20th Century Doctor Who.

I have started collecting the NEW WHO. and some of the DVD's I got had the NICE plastic cases that matched the classic series and some that I'm getting are these CHEAP cardboard junk, even my "Complete Specials" on Blu-Ray. I'm trying to make a nice display, but some with Nice cases and some with this junky cardboard does not look nice.
Are ALL the blu-rays the cheap cardboard stuff?

No, I have some in the cardboard and some in the plastic. It just depends on which release you purchase.

I'll cave in and buy it when the blu ray drops below £20 (got S9 part 1 and last Christmas chaep on blu ray last year so if the price comes down i might plump for S9 and husbands separately instead )

I received most of the DVDs that I ordered so that I could finish out my 20th Century Doctor Who collection. Four to Doomsday, Snakedance, Vengeance on Varos and Timelash came in. I am still waiting on Arc of Infinity and Warriors of the Deep and, of course, The Underwater Menace (which releases here in late May).

Anyways, I was watching Vengeance on Varos last night and I was quite surprised. I don't usually associate good stories with Colin Baker's tenure, but this was a good story. It was well layered, it had a lot of good social and political commentary and it was very well done. Oh, and The Doctor is much, much more likeable than he was in The Twin Dilemma. I quite enjoyed it. Combined with The Two Doctors, Revelation of the Daleks and Attack of the Cybermen, I think that Season 22 was pretty good overall. It kind of blows my mind that they were trying to cancel the show at the time. (Why in the world would you go into an 18 month hiatus after Season 22?)

Anyways, what did y'all think of Vengeance on Varos?

Vengeance is probably the best of the c.baker era. It's been a while since i have watched that era so the memory is fading a bit. Not a fan of that era, the classic era could easily have ended with caves of androzani and restarted with rose for me. My rewatch is on pause at the moment. Watched power of the daleks recon a month or so ago, next is the highlanders. Had a period of upheaval recently with my mum dying and sorting things out. Hoping to get back on track soon. Got s9 dvd to watch, downtime and the individual deep breath which i got for £1.49. Bought that for the extra features not on the s8 boxset.

Hooray! I have put off buying Series 2-4, waiting for them to come out on Blu-Ray and it looks as if it will finally happen right around the time that I was going to pick them up.

With that addition, a firmer date on Series Five, Part Two and the Release of the Steelbox Blu-Ray Edition of Spearhead From Space in the UK, that makes the list:

The Complete 9th Series: UK: Released, US: April 5th
The Underwater Menace (finally!): UK: Released, US: May 24th
The Complete First Series (Blu-Ray): UK: Released, US: June 21st
Series Five, Part Two: US: July 19th

I will be picking up the last of the 20th Century Who on Thursday, The Underwater Menace in May and The Complete First Series on Blu-Ray in June. The funny part is that I won't be able to pick up The Complete 9th Series as of yet with that schedule. Hopefully Series 2, 3, and 4 will all be released on Blu-Ray as well later this year and/or early next year. Depending on the release schedule and my money, I may end up picking up Series 9 around the time that Series 10 is released. LOL!

Well, it is now April 5th and Series 9 has now been released here in the U.S.. That makes the list:

The Underwater Menace (finally!): UK: Released, US: May 24th
The Complete First Series (Blu-Ray): UK: Released, US: June 21st
Series Five, Part Two: US: July 19th

Hopefully we will also have announcements soon for Series 2, 3 and 4 on Blu-Ray here in the U.S..

P.S.: My main Doctor Who watching group just had our 5th anniversary this last Sunday. We watched episodes 3 & 4 of Frontier in Space. We should be finishing up with Pertwee sometime late this year.

Just curious, does your Who watching group all share your opinions of the story after the last episode is watched? Similarly, do you each give the story a rating out of 10 or something? If so, you could then work out what the average score you've given for the story and from this what your top 5/ bottom 5 Pertwee stories are & see if they pretty much go with the "norm" out there. Plus it would be interesting to see if American tastes are similar or dissimilar with others. You could even post the results on here too! I'm sure there's others out there who are interested like me

I watch a classic story across a couple of weekends on average, as I watch it I read up on what the "Wife in Space":
http://wifeinspace.com/the-doctors/
says about the story, which is always an interesting and humorous read.

While we don't rate the Doctor Who episodes/serials, we do rate the bad movies that we watch once a week right after Doctor Who. LOL!

We do talk a bit about the stories and about Doctor Who in general. And I have posted before some of the group's opinions on this forum (to much chagrin, actually, but I don't want to open that can of worms again. LOL!).

Why would you do that? The Husbands of River Song is on the Series 9 Box-Set, as is Last Christmas.

They are finally doing what I hoped that they would; they are releasing everything that they realistically can in order to fill up what would have been a giant gaping hole in the release schedule.

Notice that there is a release every single month for the rest of the year.

The reason I havent bought it was due to the 2 separate parts and xmas dvd work out cheaper than this boxset that has the same stuff.

Was Capaldi's last boxset this dear when it came out new?

Im sure eventually it will drop in price.

Let me know when you receive it so that I can go to Barnes and Noble and buy mine. The date that I currently know is May 24th, but I will gladly take and earlier date.

P.S. If you haven't seen this Doctor Who Parody (while doing The Time Warp), I recommend it. It is amazingly well done, is hilarious and the production values are amazing:
