New ipad

I currently have an iPad mini and am getting an iPad Air 2. The mini still works but is getting a bit slow and is nearly three years old. When setting up the new iPad do I set it up as usual and then import everything I have on the cloud after that? I read somewhere that you need to do it whilst setting up. Just want everything on the mini to go on the new one as there is a lot there and when it is done I intend to wipe the mini and just use it for games for me and the grandkids! Thanks.

When you go through the set up procedure it will ask you if you want to set it up as a new device or restore from a backup. You need to select restore from back up. It will show you a list of backups. You need to select the one that says iPad mini and preferably the one that is most recent. After that your iPad Air will copy everything that was on your iPad mini.
