The India/aus game suggests more interest in a knock out game by the casual. Plus i suspect ind v pak was more of a 'event' watch so some people watched in groups etc
It may also be the case that BARB's calculation methodology does not readily or fully pick up the effect of a particular game being watched disproportionately by certain sections of the viewing public. The IND v PAK game would have been of particular interest to those of Asian heritage or otherwise in the British Asian community. The BARB panel base meanwhile is spread on a geographical, age, sex and socio-economic mix to reflect British society as a whole.

In other words it is not perfect or an absolute reflection of actual viewer numbers. If an event is disproportionately watched in certain locations or by particular communities is this accurately reflected in viewer numbers recorded. Possibly not.

The same arguments also apply to AUS v IND as to ENG v SL - both effectively knock out games and played on a weekend with limited competition from other sports, notably footy.

True.
586K is huge for a non England game.
that is by far the highest rating non england game with only some games in 2010 coming close.
When Pakistan vs Australia semi rated around 539K but that tournament in particular had very high ratings due to the timeslot.
Final averaged 1.483 M
England vs NZ 764K
England vs Sri lanka 661K

Sky would be happy for 586K for an england game.
Australia vs India game ranked higher than the England vs SA, Wi vs England.

Probably was an one off due to the Easter weekend and no football competition.

Yep barb is hardly accurate for the Asian channels.
I find it hard to believe Star Plus can get ratings of 200K.
if you add up all the ratings for each channel it would suggest 60-80% of Asians in the country watch Asian channels over English channels.

I expect Sky's own figures, now taken from 3m homes, give a more demographically accurate figure than BARB.

The delayed start to Ind/Pak would have also had an effect among some of the more casual viewers

Bloody hell Shane Warne loves to travel by plane.
he now in India to work for Star Sports and ICC TV.

Star Sports Studio presenter Harsha bhogle, Pundits Warne, Laxman.

ICC tv: pommie mbangwa with Craig Cummings and Shaun pollock.

Generally pommie Mbangwa and Slater have been the host for ICC TV with pundits being the commentators.
Star sports have been the usual Bhogle or Manjreker with pundits usually being Lee, Akram, Laxman with some of the commentators as well if they been covering the game from the ground.

Where was KP today?

Hoping for a big rating on Sunday, the final is up against the 2nd half of Leicester v Southampton and Man Utd v Everton. Despite Leicester's great season neither are blockbusters

I like both the Cricket and the Football.

But I'll be watching the Cricket and watching the Football Highlights, as I know if England win, and I don't watch it live, I will see it on some Breaking News bar or something.

I disagree on the subject these football games aren't blockbusters, up the Leicester.

Going back to Cricket, has Rob Key retired, as if he is still playing shouldn't he be getting ready for the season, rather than working for Sky.

Rob is good, and would love to see him more during there coverage, throughout the summer

Russell Arnold, is Simular to Ian Smith though, up for a laugh on Comms, and don't mind having a laugh and having a jibe made at.

Got a feeling Kumar and Mahela, might be a bit up there own arseholes, and be too serious

gotta be honest i am not a russell arnold fan , he is just too delusionally optimistic all the time

sri lanka could be 50-9 after 10 overs in an ODI and he would be saying if they can just score at a run a ball until the 40th over they could still set a decent target with a late slog

When does the Cricket Season begin, I notice there are a bundle of County v University Matches starting today.

I no Sky aren't showing any Live until May 1. But I am asking as I like to get the latest scores on SSNHQ.

next weekend i think , the university matches are usually the last "warm-up" games before the season starts

"Warm"-up....oh the irony!! Certainly up here!! Actually, it's warm(ish) in the sun today, but 8.5c in the shade. When Clive Lloyd first appeared in Lancashire, it was snowing and in April. He'd never seen snow before, and it was the start of the cricket season

Think Micheal Holding has a similar tale!

5 County/Uni games today, and it seems they all started on time. 31st March. Wonder if it's the earliest first-class start in the UK (as opposed to middle-east)?

so true.
He can never say a bad thing about Sri lanka.

It must be the earliest Cricket in the UK in March in madness.

But I'm sure I read that Marcus Trescothick made 90 odd somewhere last week, and that Alastair Cook played a game at the Oval

England v New Zealand - 632,000

So a fair bit down on last Saturday's rating but about what might have been expected given it was a work day.

Also remember (as with other ratings) - that's the whole programme average including a 60 minute pre-match intro and approx a 45 minute post match outro.

Presumably a good audience for the evening highlights show? I'm actually finding the highlights a better watch than the real thing, as much of the filler stuff (faces in the crowd, flashbacks) are absent and it seems to flow better.
