Going back to Cricket, has Rob Key retired, as if he is still playing shouldn't he be getting ready for the season, rather than working for Sky.

Rob is good, and would love to see him more during there coverage, throughout the summer
No he hasn't. But it's highly likely that he'll just be playing in the County Championship, and doing a lot of work with Sky when the One Day stuff is being played later in the summer, and the T20's on (mostly) Friday's.

And, I my opinion, and seemingly that of many others both inside and outside of the game, he is excellent and has a huge future in television when his career comes to an end in the next couple of years.

Think Rob Key is great but is he a big enough a name for Sky's test coverage? They like former england captains/legends!

Either way he's been a strong broadcaster for a few years now whilst still playing!

England v New Zealand - 632,000

So a fair bit down on last Saturday's rating but about what might have been expected given it was a work day.

Also remember (as with other ratings) - that's the whole programme average including a 60 minute pre-match intro and approx a 45 minute post match outro.
534k slot average for India v WI.

They sent Butcher to the IPL last and now Key to the WT20, maybe someone else to the IPL this year

Sky's way of keeping them sweet so they aren't tempted to cross to BT next winter maybe.

Butch & Key are excellent & certainly should see some test action, particularly in a weak summer. How long can Gower, Botham, Holding & Bumble go on/stay fresh?

Ian Ward is an excellent presenter and reporter. Ready to take over from Lord Gower, who funnily enough turns 60 today

It would be a little short-sighted for anyone with a permanent gig at Sky to go to BT for just the away Ashes series. And if I was Sky I wouldn't be that bothered if anyone did leave, it seems like there are plenty of well-spoken, fairly thoughtful ex-cricketers out there who can talk knowledgeably about the sport.

Whereas for football we get Robbie Savage, Jamie Redknapp, Andy Townsend, etc.

Impressive again, bet Sky are hoping the indian fans stay for the IPL.
If india won the semis, India vs England could have done well in the ratings.

Vaughan does some of the Domestic T20 stuff, but IIRC, Sky wanted him solely for cricket, but for the BBC, he can present his own radio programme and diversify into other sports (though not well in the case of Golf - witness his "performance" interviewing Tiger Woods at the US Masters a few years ago)

Flintoff on the other hand, wouldn't go anywhere near a Sky commentary box if Michael Atherton is in the area. It is well known in cricketing circles that those two don't see eye to eye (though as a feud, it's not as poisonous - and long running - as the one with Ian Botham and Ian Chappell).

That doesn't make me feel any better....at least he gets his railcard two years ahead of me

Doesn't seem last week since I saw him crack his first test ball for four. Was it Trent Bridge? "He nearly ran the first run and then remembered himself" - Nick Hancock

So glad SKY have Kumar and Mahela for the Sri Lanka tour instead of Russel Arnold Kumar has been great on the T20 Coverage
Yes really like Sangakkara, and Mahela has been OK too whenever I've seen him. An England win on Sun would be a great way to start the English cricket season for Sky.

Well they are doing the final together from the sky studio. I know they don't get on but don't know the reasons behind it all!

I remember reading about that at the time.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/cri...-Atherton.html

Long may Athers keep the charmless oaf away from the Sky commentary box. Touring round the country with a mobile chippie is much more his level.

I like Flintoff myself. Works well in big bash mode not sure it'd fit into skys coverage though

Athers all the way for me. That piece sums up Flintoff perfectly. To him its all about the celebrity, with Athers its about the cricket. Freddie didn't like Atherton writing about him and queried his credentials ? What ? idiot. Nasser was slated by Gower and Botham when he played now he respects them and works alongside them. He understands they were doing what they are paid to do.

It's well known that Flintoff fell out with the game around the time of that interview and didn't really have much to do with the game.

In the last few years, he's got back into it and loves the game again.

Do you really think that Flintoff would agree to do a one off appearance in the Sky studio, knowing full well that Atherton was there, if he still hated the guy? I bet Athers could of deep sixed it as well if he felt similarly about Flintoff.

A gamble yes, but may be a wise one.
Sky have less and less to spend on other sports and Cricket people are expecting a big bid from BT for the net home rights

Sky have shown that they are quite happy to spend big on the rights that they value the most and that will include the domestic cricket rights inc England games.

Of course cricket people will expect a big bid from BT. They probably expect a bigger one from Sky. It is in their interest to talk the rights up. At this stage that doesn't mean much since the rights aren't currently out to tender. The ECB will be reluctant to part company with Sky in any event.

We don't know yet what sort of effort BT are going to commit to the Aussie rights - the bulk of it will probably be taking the Channel 9 coverage with some studio stuff. I imagine they will be inclined to look for new names and faces.

Swann had worked for BT in the past for the CPL so i'd suggest he'd be one of the people involved. Suspect it'll be a few bbc guys for uk voices

I imagine Swann & Vaughan are nailed on certainties for BT's Ashes coverage.
