Good to have Cricket back, good to see Rob Key, fan of his will be interesting how much work he gets.

Good to see James Taylor, being interviewed by Athers, and of course a proper interview with James and Ian Ward tommorrow

wonder if these will be SKY's graphics for the whole year, international games as well

much more subdued and less intrusive than the IPL

Just a minor point, but the font size on "NOT" in the score bar looks huge compared to everything else.

It is the same graphics they have used for years is it not.

Not sure about years, but the graphics are very similar to those they used last year, with one or two subtle changes. The replay swipe, for example, appears to have changed.

The only change I could see was that the font had changed to the Sky house font.

The IPL ones are an awful assault on the eyes.

But Sky have no control over them.

Yes, T20 (domestic and international) has had a different style in recent years.

Could breathe in new life to the sport if t20 gets a free to air bbc, itv, channel 4 or 5 slot. The extra cash in sponsorships alone would help counties.

Glad to see the back of franchise cricket; but often wondered if the winners of the IPL and the Aussie BB couldn't enter our 20/20 (although there would be the possibility of some players playing for both teams!!)? But certainly would like to see Scotland and Ireland take part, maybe even Holland - what a day trip away that would be!

As for the TV deal; if there WAS to be FTA coverage would that include finals day? I doubt it, although extended highlights would probably be shown at a late hour?

I cannot think why they would want to, but we had the CLT20 for the top teams from the various leagues. And that failed.

Incidentally to solve the problems of players qualifying for it with multiple teams they let the player chose who to play for, unless contractually required to play for a specific team.

But where a player qualified for a team from their own country, that one was considered their home team. In that situation if a player chose to play for another team, that team would have to compensate their home team.

So, for example, in 2012 Mitchell Starc qualified with both Yorkshire and Sydney Sixers, but elected to play for Sydney. No compensation was paid as he is Australian so Sydney were considered his home team. But had he chosen Yorkshire (and they wanted him) then Yorkshire would have had to compensate Sydney.

I remember the IPL side getting first choice on a player?
I could be wrong but I've got a vague memory of a west Indian (maybe Pollard) playing for his IPL side and not his home team.

We desperately need franchise cricket with a short tournament in July and August bring in the test stars and our own internationals in big grounds.

The problem is the structure today is one county one vote so the small ones will never be in favour. They could though offer a second T20 counties competition as today but then you would either have to ditch the one day cup or most likely half the county championship. Then though the county members won't accept it as reduces the days of cricket they get for their membership as I think all counties these days surcharge the T20 games on top of the county championship and league part of the one day cup.

You used to see all of Ireland, Scotland and Netherlands included in the various one day cup competitions in the old days. The problem is especially for Ireland and Scotland most of their top players have professional contracts with the counties today, so would have to play for them. Also depending upon how they share the TV money the costs would be higher and they would need to fund a full squad some of whom would only be their B players. Is why Ireland in particular turned down the invitations.

I think that was the Champions League T20 which used to be on Eurosport. Caused problems for us as was played same time as final few rounds of county championship in mid to late September. So English clubs only occasionally took part. Was mainly funded by India with some money from Australia and SA. Was why they were seeded through to final group stages and the English teams had to play in pre qualifier with WI, NZ, Sri Lanka etc.

Anyway you are right as if was Indian money and promotion so the IPL team had first refusal on any of their players who played for any other team in the competition.

Disagree with this on many fronts but mainly.
Why play in August when we are competing with football and millions are abroad on holiday?
How will franchises work in places like Liverpool, Somerset, Essex etc.
We get plenty of stars in its existing format.
The fans voted for Friday night cricket and we gave it to them.
I would tweak it to have 2 leagues. A new premier league with a big TV contract and the 2nd division that is given away to anyone (FTA) who will show it.

I see that 'Live Cricket Writers on TV' is scheduled for next Sunday between 10.00 and 10.30. Possibly now just presented from the ground in the lead up the day's play?

They'd give Ian Ward the gig if that was the case. Poor Paul Allot!

Well we are obviously opposites.
July and August is the best times weather plus as the ECB marketing showed critical to do in school holidays if you are to attract enough families to sell out a 20,000+ test venue, particularly the daytime game if you have two live matches on one day.

Cricket fans voted for Friday night's as I also did that ECB survey, but it makes the season too long. Also I am sure the non cricket fan both in grounds and on TV wants Big Bash. Just look at what they have done there. The only similar impact in UK is PDC darts which is now massive. Short and sharp like IPL and Big Bash which also means you get the biggest global stars. Despite the odd name today in UK you don't get the biggest international stars (ignore Indians as the BCCI restricts what they can play too much).

One thing the IPL isn't is short and sharp.

I can see the opposite view and do understand where you are coming from. I've had many discussions on this over the years, but one question that has never been answered is. Where are we going to find these people that don't go to cricket now , and convince them to come in the future?

I believe some IPL teams did write it into player contracts that they would have to play for them. But otherwise it is the player's choice, subject to a team being interested and, if necessary, being willing to pay the compensation.

The IPL ones could easily afford to do that. And it would make sense for a player to chose a team with the greatest chance of winning, which invariably will be an IPL or BBL one.

Further to my suggestion on here a few weeks ago:

"Telegraph Sport understands the ICC has opened discussions with broadcasters about organising World Twenty20 tournaments in 2018 and 2022, meaning that the event will be played every two years."

Article also states that the World T20 Final on Sky Sports had a peak audience of 2.45m - Sky's highest ever cricket audience (way higher than the match average of 1.34m - per Sport Business).
