we talking about commentators not cricketers.
Nasser is one of Sky top commentators.

Sky big 3 are Hussain, Atherton and Lloyd.

It is very weird for Sky not to select him for 2 winter tours.

Perhaps Sky have found out what we knew all along or perhaps he has decided he is quite content not to cover overseas tours.

No surprise really Away cricket tours of England are very costly and loads of savings can be made.

The only surprise is that Botham and Lloyd get two winters tours each with Hussain zero.
No surprise really both Botham and Lloyd are more customer friendly in my view anyway.

I can only assume that Botham's contract stipulates that he must cover all England test matches. I also assume he's on a long-term contract with Sky.

Unfortunately he's a terrible commentator with nothing incisive or analytical to say and zero charisma (great player, though he was).

In the early Sky days, having Botham on board was a coup. But now that Sky are the preeminent cricketing broadcaster and have been covering English cricket for 25 years, it's less important for Sky to have 'names' over actual commentating talent.

It's rather sad if fulfilling the terms of Botham's contract means talented commentators like Nasser Hussain don't get to cover either of the two winter tours.

Having Botham and Smith paired together will be awful.
Both are so full of them selves, so bias and be interesting since one always thinks England will win and the other South Africa.

Michael holding also commentating for super sport as he has done for the last few years, so you could say 4 sky commentators working for super sport.

Whoa Michael Holding is a surprise.
did he sign a deal with Supersport 2 summers in a row he covered for them.

No wonder Sky didn't bring their own team would be a waste if Host feed as 3 Englishmen + Holding.

Surprised Lloyd didn't mention it on Twitter or Sky sports didn't do any material with him before the series started.

Think is contract only covers big games only done Australia and England for Supersport.

Surprised he signed a contract if he did considering he is starting to lose interest in the game and has said he might quit after his contract runs out with sky.

Ian botham, Atherton, Lloyd, Holding, Hd Ackerman, Pommie Mbangwa, Mike Haysman, Shaun pollock and Greame Smith.
Might have few others since the Supersport team is huge and they use 3 in the same box.

Ward is not commentating just doing Interviews and being the presenter in South Africa.

Edit add Kepler Wessels.
10 commentators by my watch.

Cheers. Keppler Wessels too. Not a fan of the 3 man team. Prefer 2

Agree 3 man team annoying since most of the time one commentator hardly talks.

The only place where it has worked is in NZ.

Ian Ward isn't commentating so he's just been dragged out to SA to do nothing basically

"Dragged out to South Africa" makes it sound like far more of a chore than I suspect it is.

He does not commentate on home test series either, so he is "basically" doing exactly the same as he does at any test match he works on here.

It is amazing how many people seem to think his job is so easy he only works when on camera.

have to say Supersports comm rota is shambolic.
no idea why 2 English comm are regularly together.
surely the whole point of Super sport using a big team and 3 English comms is so each comm pairing has one Englishman in it or Holding.

Far too many times today this has happened or the pairing has all South African in it.

I wonder if Trott is the South African representative for the Verdict lol.
in recent times Sky have liked a touring view or a neutral view in the ashes for the verdict.

Ward will be recording features, interviews etc. Don't be surprised if, during next summer's coverage, we see some features that were clearly recorded in South Africa during this tour.

I'm bemused that 3 commentators for each shift seems to be the norm nowadays. The traditional 6 man team, with 2 commentators working half-hour segments, worked perfectly fine for 15-20 years. A team of 10-11 commentators is totally uneconomic and unnecessary.

I suspect it's to do with the proliferation of ex-players automatically graduating to the commentary box and the need to accommodate them all. Sadly, few of them have anything interesting to say, and little to no proper journalistic training, unlike the late great Richie Benaud.

As has already been said, one disadvantage of the big ensemble of commentators is that with three on each shift, at least one barely talks. The other disadvantage is that as a viewer, it's far harder to build any relationship with the commentators.

And at that time how many of those commentators were working on at least two different broadcasts? Or then also having to be part of extended build-up, end of play analysis, live blogs, or podcasts?
