Good, Hussain, Holding and Atherton should be on every test match, they are the top men as far as I'm concerned.
Don't mind Warne occasionally either, you have to take him for what he is.
He's got a great cricket brain and can be very insightful sometimes.

What annoys me the most about Warne is he acts like a Muppet because of the nine influence and then the worse crime for me is that he never completes the full tour and literally travels to games and then leaves and might come back 2-4 weeks later.

He was far better when he started and looked like he had a good future as a commentator and then Nine destroyed him.

Actually can't remember the last time he actually said something insightful in the commentary box, which is shocking for someone with his cricketing brain.

Warne destroyed Warne, Channel Nine didn't. Channel Nine didn't force Warne to go back into his old ways and become bigger than himself, Channel Nine didn't force him to go out with Liz Hurley and Channel Nine didn't force him to have a face replacement!

Something I've meant to post recently, I've noticed that County games broadcast on Sky are now using Hawkeye. This is this first season this has been the case on all games.

Previously, it was confined to use on T20 Finals Day and the One Day Cup final. A welcome change.

Surprised about that since it is costly to sky to have those in all TV games unless sky wants to use the hawkeye data for stats purposes.
Welcome chance since last year sky had a reduction in number of cameras and the camera work was bad at county games.

So we have to put up with Warne, but there's no Bumble?
Thanks Sky.

Is it me or does Gower just waffle on and on?

I noticed Ward was back on the Sky Cart yesterday too.

A note from Australia, Fox Sports tried to get rights to some Big Bash games as part of a sub-licensing deal for 11 AFL games, but Channel Ten said No Dice.

Cricket Writers slightly better this morning, but it still seems very wooden, it doesn't. Help if you also have 2 very wooden Journos, Lawrence Booth always comes across bloody miserable in my eyes, and Dean Wilson, where as he comes over stuffy, you tend to get the feeling he would rather be partying.

Didn't learn nothing new while watching it, Compton Bashing, Scott Borthwick, Removing Bairstow as a wicketkeeper after taking 11 catches wasn't it, in the last test match, what a joke, and Lawrence Booth wanting a day night test match, at a ground which doesn't need it.

They'd have to go some to be as wooden as the presenter.

I think that's a bit unfair. It seems everybody here liked the previous format where he was still the presenter.

I don't have a problem with Paul Allot, he basically has made the show his own, If you remember he had some knee problems the other summer, but didn't miss a show.

And the way the series is this summer, means Paul has to go to whatever venue the test match is at, and maybe not do a show at all, like Headingly during the first test.

If I remember rightly, he missed at least 1 show when he had his knee op, with Charles Colvile standing in.

Oh yeah, I remember now.

But going back to Cricket Writers, I guess one plus with the show today, was that they were indoors, which meant you could hear what was being said.

Cricket Writers was at its best for me, when it used to include the test squad being announced.

This thread seems mostly devoted to people moaning about cricket writers on TV but to go back to the coverage of the actual matches for a second I thought the masterclass on facing spin bowling with Warne and Jayawardene yesterday was brilliant. Warne may be annoying in the comm box but you couldn't ask for anyone better for something like that. Meanwhile listening to Mahela talk you through his thought process when facing a great spinner like Warne was illuminating. Ian Ward did a good job asking the right questions and probing the two great minds as well. Sky's masterclasses are far and away the best part of their cricket coverage for me.

Back to actual Match coverage, I wish the commentators would shut up when there is a DRS, they have a bad habit of talking over the umpire. At least they are not as bad as on the Radio

You must be watching special coverage of your own then, as whenever I have heard a DRS appeal, I don't think I have ever heard the Comms butting in.

What do you feel you are missing out on?

Apart from that time Rod Tucker had to witter on to fill because there was a problem getting Hawkeye ready they only ever say (assuming it goes all the way through the process):

Show me spin vision [can you rock 'n roll that]
Now hot spot [can you rock 'n roll that]
RTS, please [can you rock 'n roll that]
Okay, ball tracking
On field umpire, that was hitting or missing or impact outside or whatever, you can stay with or have to change your decision, you are on screen now

Anything else they ass is just to tell us what we can all see for ourselves (there is a mark on hot spot, it hits the bat first).

Yes certainly agree with that. Loved the masterclass yesterday. Warne and Jaywardene both brilliant.

I heard Warne described pretty well by someone the other day, when talking about the technical aspects of the game he's brilliant, one of the best. It's all the rough stuff around the edges, the 'lose to win', the Michael Clark bromance/Alastair Cook baiting and all the larrakin behaviour that takes the shine off him.
