Charles Colville was saying during the Royal London Cup match today.

That the first England tour they shown in the West Indies back in 1990, was meant to have been shown on British Satelite Brpadcasting, but as they had problems, BSkyB had to show it instead, wonder how it would have played out over the years, if British Satelite Broadcasting, had shown that series

BSkyB didn't start until Sky merged with BSB late in 1990 and this tour was 89/90. It was the old Sky TV that showed it.

Sorry for not being 100% accurate, but I know what I meant.

Today has shown me at even if a game doesn't sound attractive, it can still be a good watch, Gloucestershire v Hampshire, was really good, never seen a game at Bristol provide so many runs

Unless you are talking to yourself, when posting on a forum it is more important that everyone else understands what you meant.

But things would have played out no differently had it been on BSB The Sports Channel instead of Sky One.

Having the cricket did not see massive demand for Sky, so there is any reason to think it would have been different were it on BSB.

And the Sky Television Network would still have launched first anyway. So they would still have had a head start at attracting viewers even without the technical problems which meant BSB had not launched by the time of that tour.

But it was the competition between the two companies that saw both losing money at an alarming rate which lead to the merger. That would not have changed.

The only thing,, which could have ended up differently was the decision to continue with PAL broadcasting on the Astra satellite to round dishes instead of D-MAC broadcasting on the Marcopolo satellite to squarials. And that seems unlikely as the former was the cheaper option.

That 1990 series had a very nice signature tune as I remember. I'll see if I can find it anywhere.

That's not the one I remember which was more of a steel drum sound.

Edit: this may be because I didn't have Sky in 1990 and was watching the highlights on whichever terrestrial channel was showing it. They would have used a different tune.

Another edit: found it, at the beginning of this. To be fair, it's not as great as I remembered.

The Steel drum opening, is still used for West Indies tests isn't it, more upbeat than the other tune

Yes, handily there is also a HD channel on the likes of Sky and Virgin Media.

Interestingly though in a reply to a tweet Butcher says they won't be showing their first game until the 1st July, a couple of days after the tournament starts

FTA live cricket is back then. Most games are late evening, I wonder if cricket can pick up a new "after the pubs close" audience.

Looks like they may be only showing 5 games live overnight with the bulk of the games shown in full on a delay at 1pm each afternoon. http://dave.uktv.co.uk/shows/caribbe...eague-cricket/

Probably already been posted, but this link explains the BBC's online highlights deal for home England men's and women's games, and some county games:

Confirmed in this month's Cricketer magazine, incidentally, that the total lack of fanfare about the deal was a way of keeping Sky 'on side', as Sky didn't want the deal to happen at all.

Do we think this is the start of the ECB carving up the rights like the the football?

I might be wrong, but I think the highlights started appearing on the second day of the First Test, so quite a last minute thing. I wonder how it came about: the BBC approaching the ECB, or vice versa?

suspect ECB were the one doing the approaching.
2 deals have been changed recently considering Sky don't have exclusive rights on the ireland/Scotland games either.

in the past Ireland were getting really annoyed at sky for not providing coverage for the non England games as that was one reason they struggled to get more games in Ireland.
here a short highlights of Sentanta coverage of the game.

No I think it was there from day 1 of the 1st test. The video is gone now but the page it was on is still here

No idea, I was under the impression he flickered between various locations, namely Mebourne, London and Vegas. Either way Sky are certainly using him more this year.
