3 comms will be more common in the future if they want more overseas touring commentators.
Supersport only started to use them recently to get 2 or 3 touring comms and a neutral. india 2014 first time. Star Sport same reason although this was actually because they wanted more recent players commentating. |

3 comms looks like its here to stay.
I prefer sky's way of doing it with a "3rd man", that way you get 2 men commenting on the action with the extra throwing anecdotal elements in. With a 3 you have to get the trios right, beefy who gets heaps of stick works quite well in a 3 I feel. |

These three-man commentary teams are terrible, rugby union and AFL excepted (I wish there were just three at times!). Mike Haysman must be paid by the word and must be caned everytime he leaves even a second of dead air. He's as unlistenable as Mark "in love with myself" Nicholas.
Lovely feature about Beefy - would actually have made a good Saturday story. |

Dunno if David Lloyd's house really IS under water, but if that were the case I would expect him to fly home immediately. I certainly couldn't carry on in a job if my house was under water!

I don't really care about post-match presentations, but Sky went straight off air at the conclusion of tonight's New Zealand v Sri Lanka game. Have they been doing that more often recently?

At tea, Sky just went live to Ian Ward, Graeme Smith and Michael Atherton. It was the first time I've seen them do this (I've been dipping in and out of the coverage so far), so I was surprised to see that Sky appeared to be using some kind of video stream, which fluctuated in quality over the course of the segment, rather than the typical kind of video link-up you would expect.

So who is in charge of the stump mic
Gower's had to apologise a few times. You'd think after a few decades of stump mic, someone had more of a clue.

They have been using an IP type (like Skype) for a while rather than paying for access to the main broadcast circuit.
anyone know how Sky produced the feed in NZ 2012/13 when they did something similar although they used their own comms, no idea about the pictures but the studio was in London and Gower or Ward speaking to commentators on deck chairs at the ground. ![]() Was it IP type or main broadcast circuit. |

And at that time how many of those commentators were working on at least two different broadcasts? Or then also having to be part of extended build-up, end of play analysis, live blogs, or podcasts?
Still, I think that 3 man stints at the mic and a ten-man team is ridiculous. My main beef is that there are too many test match players moving straight from the dressing room into the commentary box with no journalistic training and little analytical or broadcasting ability. |

With the stump mic, I'd imagine it's actually that the the volume is set rather low by Sky on games in this country to avoid comments being heard as much as possible, and the potential issues they would bring with OFCOM.
Aus & SA obviously Broadcasters presumably not as bothered by OFCOM type organisations. |

The stump mic in Durban is on so loud players are drowning out the commentators at times!!!
Not bothered about swearing whatsoever but drowning out the commentary is a bit ott! |

This test is the reason why I love shared commentary.
The banter between the South African comms and the english comms were great. that probably the only benefit of the cuts, always wanted Sky to have shared comms or more number of touring comms. |

I too prefer the host commentary but more because it's tied to the host pictures and usually there is a link between the director and commentators. The situation during the last India tour of commentating off-tube in London was absolutely ridiculous.

Ian botham, Atherton, Lloyd, Holding, Hd Ackerman, Pommie Mbangwa, Mike Haysman, Shaun pollock and Greame Smith.
Might have few others since the Supersport team is huge and they use 3 in the same box. Ward is not commentating just doing Interviews and being the presenter in South Africa. Edit add Kepler Wessels. 10 commentators by my watch. |

http://www.boundarynews.org/beyond-t...ckets-problems Some cricket journalists saying FTA companies have no interest at all in showing cricket. With the Horse racing going to ITV I do wonder if they would now have any interest at all in cricket. |

b. In 2005 we and our children didn’t have so many choices for our leisure and entertainment consumption. We weren’t all walking around with ipads, very few of us had more than five channels, our kids weren’t watching some bloke talking about minecraft on you-tube, wedidn’t have x-boxes and playstations and cheap laptops available to us. If my son and his friends are anything to do by, kids barely watch telly anymore – But in 05 there was freeview, millions had Sky, games consoles had been around for years, no Youtube but plenty of video sharing sites. And Broadband took off in the UK in 03 - 04. He (or she) also makes the mistake of thinking the Big Bash is on Channel 9 down under. It isn't, it's on Channel 10; Channel 9 show the tests and ODIs and their coverage isn't that great. |

They showed the World Cup highlights last winter. The issue with ITV is not interest but the price. Horse racing gives ITV at least 200 hours of programming for £7.5m per year. I am sure it also reaches a very good demographic. Such as the Queen. I cannot see can any of the main ECB rights offering the same value. Which is not to say they would not be interested, just that two are not like-for-like. |

I cannot see them being interested in first class cricket anyway, it is most likely to be T20s.
Maybe some List A too, but those can be usually be scheduled to fit with other commitments. |
