How do we know Sky’s exclusive deal for (men’s) cricket also covers all women’s cricket (ie not just women’s international cricket)?

This event hadn't even been thought of when the last ECB/Sky deal was signed.

There was a discussion on R5L a few weeks ago where they said no broadcaster was interested – no mention was made of Sky having exclusivity.

I’m not saying Sky definitely don’t have exclusivity – just questioning whether it is really known for certain that they do.
Sky have an exclusive deal which covers any televised cricket from within England and Wales (areas under the jurisdiction of the ECB). It was one of the sticking points when there was an attempt to have some of the IPL over here a few years ago before Sky had the rights to that competition.

Even if Sky do have such blanket rights, they have shown willing to sub-licence rights that it should not pose a barrier if they were not interested.

Although reports the ECB believe they could start a new T20 competition in 2018, which could then be sold separately to the current TV contract so long as it was concurrent with the T20 Blast, raises questions over that claim.

Just out of interest, if there was a "neutral" test (ie Pakistan v South Africa) at Lords or something - would that fall outside of Sky's rights and/or ECB's remit?

No it wouldn't. In 2010 Pakistan played Australia over here in some t20s and some test matches. They were shown on Sky as they have exclusive rights to show all cricket played in this country.

No it wouldn't, all cricket played on English/Welsh soil falls under the ECBs remit. Any tournament/match/series here without the ECBs say so would be a "rebel/unsanctioned" and anyone taking part would likely be banned from any other sanctioned tournaments with other boards. So any Pakistan v South Africa series would have to be negotiated with the ECB first and then fall within their (in this case broadcasting) rules.

Indeed, and as I briefly mentioned up thread in 2009 the IPL held tentative talks to hold at least some of IPL2 in this country and were blocked by the ECB because the IPL had a broadcast deal with Setanta.

As nobody has mentioned it yet, obviously all ICC-run events are exempt from this, and Sky have those rights in a separate deal.

Raf Nicholson reported this.

https://crickether.com/2016/07/04/ex...-sky-coverage/

The ECB have today confirmed to CRICKETher that there will be no live Sky Sports TV broadcast of any KSL matches this summer, including Finals Day on 21st August.

However 7 of the matches, plus Finals Day, will be broadcast live ball-by-ball on BBC Test Match Special.

In addition, the ECB’s digital channels will be producing a vast array of content throughout the competition, and OPTA will be live scoring every game.

It had previously been hoped that – following on from their coverage of England Women’s matches against Pakistan this summer – the inaugural KSL Finals Day would be covered by Sky. However, due to the men’s NatWest T20 Blast Finals Day being on 20th August (with the reserve day on 21st August), it is now felt that it would not be logistically possible for Sky to cover both events.

While Sky will not be offering live coverage of the tournament, they will be pulling together an exclusive “behind the scenes” piece working with three of the six KSL teams to document the first year of the competition.
Was reported at the time by some media personnel that Sky Exclusivity meant that no one else could have shown it live although guessing in reality no one was really interested in it except for sky.
BBC only really wanted the radio rights.

Which channels are showing which series over the winter. Sky will have England's matches and BT Australia's home series, but what about the others.

Guessing the comms for the Bangladesh series will be poor or awful if Sky don't send a team to Bangladesh.
hard to see Gazi Tv getting a good comm team for the series if sky don't send a team because of security reasons.
Can only really think of Athar Ali khan that speak decent or ok english and even then that is pushing it.

Wonder if Sky will do commentary from the studio, should be better since 2012 with technology improving but even then when Star Sports did it last winter for the Australian Test matches it did sound poor and weird still.
Bangladesh will be a huge risk if done with studio comms since Gazi tv are horrible with pictures and not exactly a well known cricketing broadcaster and probably going to have far less cameras and shoddy directing that will make commentating from the pictures harder.

Did Nimbus ever host-broadcast Bangladesh matches, or am I making that up?

Sky didn't send a team in 2010 so they certainly won't be sending one now.

In 2010 they sent Butcher and Bumble to join the host broadcast ( and bumble got ill and had to come home midway through the tour.)

Maybe Dom Cork will go to the Sub-continent, he's been down there before, although not sure if he's been since the attack in PK.

If I remember correctly in 2010 there was 2 Bangladesh commentators, Dominc Cork, Mike Atherton, Bob Willis and Bumble. Bumble states in one of his books that Mark Butcher was only supposed to be working for TMS but ended up working on TV also as Bumble became ill. Apparently Butcher never got paid for his TV work as the host broadcaster weren't impressed with him!

So a bit like Yorkshire they brought in some big names for finals day and didn't stick with the guys who got them to the final ( Butcher, Cork, Allot )

What, Yorkshire the biggest and most successful team in the history of the game didn't make the final?
