Have to agree on both points. I do still like the score at the top mostly because its out of the way and its what i grew up with!
and the amount of space wasted now by silly full-screen bar's with so much space not being used for something irks me royally!
One thing that got me was they calling Lords 'St Johns Wood' on their graphics!!

Although on cricket I am retro and like the scorebar on the top and in NZ that was still the case 'til recently... However one thing I can say is the recent Sky NZ Cricket graphics at the bottom should show other broadcasters how it is done...

A single bar and a fairly small bar with just the team/score from time to time and then when required additional info (runs etc) across the same singular line at the bottom which only takes about half of the bottom of the screen. No empty pointless second bar below or huge chunky graphics or those BCCI swooshy animations etc etc...

Simple... fantastic and easy on the eye.
However, the big square on the left end of the bar which rotates overs bowled, run rate etc is, well, big and out of place compared to the rest of the score bar. Also, just a little thin, but there is no indication of which batsman is on strike, which is pretty standard.

There is an indication of which batsman is on strike? The onstrike batsman is highlighted in green on the scorebar.

I think they are excellent graphics.

Must've missed that! I only caught 5 minutes of it last night, and my eyes were drawn to the box on the left end most of that time!

Replaced Bash in the schedule and they got rights for it and got 5 channel to fill so they might as well show it.

Presume no studio for that stuff, not as big time as the Big Bash.

They have shown it in previous years, think last year had pretty comprehensive coverage (without studio), before that less so

Recorded the highlights of the third Aus SA test today on BT. Upon watching it was very disappointing and extremely annoying that the highlights were shown 'in' screen with rolling sports news coverage around it, aka sky sports news. Having not watched the highlights of the first two offerings is this normal? It was that irritating I gave up after 5 minutes, what exactly is the point of this? If this is the way they are going to treat cricket then I sincerely hope they dont secure any more rights.

I saw part of one of the highlights programmes earlier in the series, and the highlights were full screen. I think it was around 10pm at night, though.

It happens a lot sadly the only way around it is too press the red button which obviously isn't possible if your recording

The 'live' showing of the highlights will be full-screen. Any repeats on BT Sport 3 will have the graphics. Any showings on other BT Sport channels (e.g. BT Sport 1 at 7:45 tonight) will be graphics free.

For the first two tests the first highlights showing didn't have this. So the 11am ones should be fine.

They do really well with the 'short form' highlights too.

They are treating the cricket with far more love than Sky have since they cut back a couple of years ago i find.

Only happens with repeats and on BT Sport 3 only. If on another BT Sport channel (BT Sport 1 as I write) you don't get that.

I do agree it's annoying.

Thanks for the replies and info. I'll be more careful in future about which highlight times and channel I use to record them from, though i find it ridiculous to put so much thought into it!

The obvious one would be to record the 'live' highlights straight after the end of each day, but as they rarely start on time, the schedule changes and they always fail to record, which is annoying.

Reading the comments, a couple stand out

"This article just revives the mystery about why sports orientated FTA channels like 7 and 9 don’t want a dedicated HD Sports channel, there’s plenty of content available even if it may not be live. Unfortunately for FTA the commercial case for this idea has been dominated by the buying power of Fox Sports, but recent changes in pay TV coverage due to streaming competition have left a few gaps that could have been exploited better. The lack of initiative shown by FTA demonstrates why it is fast losing it’s formerly dominant place to pay TV"

"I hope not. I think having a variety of channels and commentators is great for the game."

Good start from BT Sport with their first series. I think its a bonus for them that there will be more day/night tests which equate to reasonable UK viewing times for the final session in Brisbane and Adelaide as well as Perth. Not sure about the risk assessment for Greg James's slip catch!

Interesting to see what they do for the ashes. Will they go out for it or stay in studio? Will they just take basic channel 9 comms so in theory could get sky guys working on it? Bumble is popular with channel 9 for example. Would sky allow that? Apparently they are technically freelance but i suspect there are limits!

I would expect Nine's commentary team for the Ashes to be unchanged (unlike the Australian team) but they will obviously find a place for Bill Lawry at Melbourne.
