Hope his recovery goes smoothly. An operation at his age is a serious thing.

But he will be recording a message to be played during the show.

Exactly.

To suggest that posters were celebrating that he is ill is frankly ridiculous.

It is a bit silly, but I think Monkseal is great, regardless. Think he's just trying to get a little rise out of us forumites

Hope Bruce recovers well but I too am glad it's Tess and Claudia. There was a notable difference last year straight after the Bruce free ones. We found it such a slog to watch.

I wish Bruce well.

And I, for one, will miss him actually.

Beat me to it, was going to say the same.

Sorry to hear he is not well and wish him all the best but happy he won't be hosting the Christmas show.

1) I think you may be in the wrong forum...

2) "filler of the lowest order" would only be an accurate description if it was a Xmas Len's Lens.

I agree. Won't miss him, but I do wish him a good recovery.

Can I wade in defend Bruce Forsyth. When I had tickets for the live final in 2011, the highlight for me was seeing him for real. He was naturally funny in front and behind the cameras and happily chatted with bits of the audience as he came on and off stage.
That year it was was filmed on November 17, so I guess they put back the recording this year to allow Bruce's recovery. I'm sad that he didn't make it because it must mean he's not doing well.

If you go back through the history of the comments about Bruce on DS, that was around the time I (and I guess others) changed from being a supporter of him, to become one of his critics, simply because he'd become increasingly irascible, less amusing than he once was and trying to make it even more about him with his delaying tactics.

Hardly representative
, I think the mood generally will be hooray, because he really isn't up to it any more and I don't have to watch an old man whom I used to really like failing to do a job he used to be brilliant at.

I hope he gets well soon, but I hope we don't have to see him getting worse and possibly doing a Tommy Cooper on us.

Time to call it a day now forever he simply isn't up to it anymore

I do hope that the producers take this opportunity to take Bruce to one side next year and not have him return- The show has moved on and unfortunately he''s struggling enormously now even with the pre-recording to help him (CIN wasn't good and he looked fraile) He''s a big part of why Strictly became popular and I wish him a speedy recovery, but nobody really wants to see gradually deteriorating year on year do they?

If Brucie's asked to do any work no one but he can dictate what he should or should not do. He's 87 and capable of being cautious and making his own decisions as he has with the Christmas show.

I was looking forward to seeing him but his health comes first. Hearing he's made a full recovery would be more satisfying than any lobbying for him to be banned.

I am sure his wife will know whether or not he is fit to work and stop him if she thinks he should not do so.

I agree whole heartedly. I wish him a speedy recovery, but I wouldn't have watched the Christmas special if he was presenting it. He ruined Children in need, he was awful.

Yeah right... That's why it's one of the most watched shows on the BBC

I don't wish ill on anyone but what does annoy me about this is the way BF is treated like Royalty by the BBC .

BF is convinced he quit while he was still on top of his game because the sycophantic Beeb would tell him this just to get rid of him and now he still clings on believing he is an asset to the show.

Recording a message for us to be shown on Christmas Day .......erm .........., what does that remind me of.

BF was a very good presenter in the '60s and '70s, a highly paid, highly acclaimed presenter who has been well rewarded in money and honours. It's time the BBC stopped massaging his ego and let him go, he will never take the hint himself.

Rant over

Any news of who is going to cover for him or are they just going to continue with Tess and Claudia?

They're continuing with Tess and Claudia, which is how it should be instead of still treating Claudia as a stand-in. She's well and truly earned her place on the show.

The BBC are allowing Claudia to co host the show with Tess.

Sorry, it's great news that Bruce is not hosting the Xmas Special this year.
Wheeling him out twice a year, kicking Claudia to the sidelines just to massage Bruce's Ego makes me angry.
Hearing that a VT message from Bruce will be aired on during the Xmas Special, makes me puts my hands up in despair. Now the're treating him like Royalty, Xmas Message on Xmas day.

It's no secret I don't rate Tess as a presenter, but... Tess & Claudia are the hosts of the show, it should be them who host the Strictly Specials.
