First British track to get a US number 1 "Telstar" was not the first British track to be a US Number 1. That honour went to "Auf Wiedersehen Sweetheart" by Vera Lynn in 1952. Also, "Stranger On The Shore", an instrumental classic by British jazz legend Acker Bilk became a US Number 1 in early 1962, a year before the Tornadoes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jzx664u5DA "Telstar" topped the US chart in early 1963, making the Tornadoes the first British group to do so. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxpZ5rOMH4U |

The Shadows had numerous instrumental hits as well as backing Cliff
Here's Apache................ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzgbcyfJgfQ bit of an unusual video because the lads are looking all 'rock n roll' and cool..................usually they have suits on and are doing their little two step dance routine backwards and forwards. this is very unusual ! |

Dave Stewart & Candy Dulfer : Lily Was Here.

You all know Pick Up the Pieces by Average White Band. Massive tune.
Mac DeMarco has an instrumental on his second album that reminds me of something from Peter Gabriel's Robert Fripp produced second album. Mac DeMarco - Boe Zaah 2012 La Luz - Sunstroke 2013 The Durutti Column - Madeleine 1980 Com Truise is amazing, literally everything he makes is amazing. From his Cyanide Sisters EP, 2010. BASF Ace Quantic - Sol Clap 2014 Shoreline Is - Till You Run Off 2015 |

Here's UK guitarist Martin Taylor (MBE) & his group Spirit Of Django playing the Robert Palmer tune Johnny & Mary; The video doesn't always seem to fit with the music though
(copyright reasons?):https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DV4EI3NbUdY A version of this was used in the "Nicole?", "Papa!" Renault Clio adverts:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDe9rvQRHEI More Martin, with a UK band, playing the tune Chez Fernand; The musicians are listed below the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rc9FtHdLWm8 I like how together the band sound, & (to me) the light, airy feel to the music. Both he (& Guy Barker) deserve their MBEs imo. |

I've just watched a repeat of an old "Jonathan Creek" episode on the Drama channel. The episode featured this wonderful jazz instrumental track:-
Chris Barber's Jazz Band - Petite Fleur (1959) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flHkqc6rmfM |
