Christmas Songs And Carols That Never Get Played Very Much

Last week at this roller skating disco they played only the popular ones like Slade, Wizard, Band Aid & Shaking Stevens on a loop from a mobile phone playlist. They choose an autistic person for the DJ who kept skipping them making it even more annoying as the same ones were playing over and over again.

For songs I think that Jingle Bell Rock doesn't get played all that much although it does in the USA. And one I heard the other day in a pub playing that's more popular in America with the lyrics Have A Holly Jolly Christmas. Also a few dance ones like Snap! Mary Had A Little Boy.

For carols when I was a kid every Christmas Eve I would ask people at church if they knew this one called love Came Down At Christmas but I have never heard it play to this day. They always sing ones like Oh Little Town Of Bethlehem. Come All Ye Faithful is always sung too.

One last thing I bet someone mentions Another Rock And Roll Christmas which was played at a local Christmas bingo I went to back in around 2008 but nobody minded it been played.

How did you guess that I was going to mention "Another Rock and Roll Christmas"? Considering the fact that Gary Glitter has been in trouble with the law since the late 1990s/early 2000s, it is totally understandable why the song no longer gets played. In fact, to be honest I haven't heard it being played at Christmas for more than 10 years.

i suppose it depends where you are listening. I hear a good mix of songs on radio and in etc shops, but down at the local roller disco of course it's going to be limited to one persons choice!

Britney recorded a Xmas song in 2000 called 'My Only Wish (This Year) which I only found out about roundabout 2007 [and I had been a massive Britney fan years before then]

I've always wondered why it wasn't promoted. Britney was huge in 2000 and it would have been a massive hit if they made a proper video for it and she promoted it. I think its a great song too

I'm really surprised they didn't make the most of it.

I came across a Spotify playlist a couple of months ago of Pixie Lott's favourite Christmas
Songs and that very song was there.

Most Christmas recording don't get played much; just the chart hits. They are used to make us feel festive and induce spending. When I see someone has made a Christmas record I tend to think. "Here's another artist who wants to earn some cash on the back of Christmas" but still, everyone is free to record them if they want and we don't have to listen to them.

I don't expect that I'll hear too many of these in shops or on the mainstream radio stations except perhaps the first couple:
