" Buttoned up and Victorian " seems to be a good summary Heatherbell, when I watch his dancing style its almost as if he is wearing heavily starched clothing, I almost feel as though I want to run on stage with some WD40 to lubricate his joints, perhaps that is the problem, all the boy band stage performing touring may have left his joints a little worse for wear.

Watching Jays dancing technique closely on Saturday there is no denying that his intensive pre show training has helped him to become a technically very proficient dancer, but one can't help but notice a certain stiff plank like rigidness to his dancing technique?”

Well Terry, he was dancing a Tango, so that stiffness and attack is what's required of him in that dance - the judges were wowed by it as were most people. If you look at the latest training video, you will see he is exactly the opposite for the Rumba - graceful, fluid and no sign of stiffness at all.

'Stiff as a poker?' It's strange Craig hasn't thought to critique that. I wonder why? It's maybe because he isn't. You can bet you're bottom dollar Craig would have mentioned it before the quarter finals if he thought so.

I suppose when you're blinded by prejudice and dislike for a particular person, it's much easier to fool yourself and just make up lots of criticisms.

Jays dancing is epic! Whether you like it, or not. It's really very ungracious to suggest otherwise.

Looks like the esteemed Matthew Bourne got it all wrong. Thanks Heatherbell, for keeping us right. Jay is stiff as a big fat poker.

I have frequently agreed with your posts in the past, but this is just utter nonsense. Both you and Heatherbell appear to be allowing you dislike of Jay to distort your judgement. I may not be over fond of some of the celebrities but I recognise that ALL of them are very good dancers indeed.

I'm fully aware he is the forum favourite , but I don't care , I don't like him because I find him dull and his excessive training makes him a ringer of epic proportions . Yet even with all those years of training he still messes up his routines .But he looks teary eyed and does the lip thing and fairy dust descends to cover his errors . I don't call him names in the manner kellie gets belittled by being called 'titzilla' because I can voice my dislike without resorting to derogatory names .
It's quite simple , for someone so intensely previously trained and now spending 9 hours a day with aliona doing whatever they do he is not delivering the goods . Looking pretty and getting a new hair do just won't cut it at this point .
He's got by on fan base , but Anita is easily better than him and kellie and georgia are most certainly equal and often better , but they want a male in the final so jay will be there and the hard grafting girls will have to suffer yet another cut in their numbers to make that happen . Such a shame .

He's not just a 'forum favourite'. Check out the Strictly Facebook page. Last weeks Tango has 17k likes....so far

I'm convinced you must be watching someone else. Everything you've said ^^^ sounds like a different Jay to the one I've been watching.

Strange indeed!

That's it
You've made me so concerned about him not making the final that I just have to send more votes his way.......

Yes. I mean, I like Anita and she's doing her best, which is great, but to say she's better than Jay is just silly. All subjective of course, but for me.... It's silly talk!

Anita is a much better performer than Jay, but he is a much better dancer. Which is odd seeing as he was in a boyband?

My two favourites.

I see in this thread, Jay has been accused of being too stiff in Tango - he actually was toned rather than stiff which Aliona had obviously worked on. In actual fact I would have liked to see him with MORE toning, especially though his core, upper back and frame.
He did a great job.

You are right to bring this up in his Rumba week Terry. Most male celebs find it especially hard. Stiffness isn't going to look good in that dance. I'm a bit worried that he might finish up at the bottom this week.

I think his waftiness will suit the Rumba. Helen's Paso seems like it might be pretty poor.

I'm expecting a contemporary style Rumba to play to Jays strengths but with a number of recognised Rumba groups included within the routine. Will be fab I'm sure.

I am hoping that Helen will surprise a few people, I think the Paso will be very expressive and dramatic, with good strong shapes, hopefully not frantic like some.

I hope Helen does surprise me. Her movements could be too elegant for a Paso and she needs to work on her facial expressions.

*nods*

I think she overcompensates with aggressive facial expressions because she struggles to have powerful movements in her body.

No hate, by the way. I love Helen's dancing.

It does not help that she has a naturally childlike face anyway, so trying to look fierce looks like an infant faking a tantrum.

I have to admit I was not wowed at all by Jays dancing on Saturday night SeasideLady, which is saying something for me as I do normally arouse quite easily, I just found that Jays stiff robotic dancing style and frozen facial expression was slightly off putting and very reminiscent of that melting policeman in that Arnold Swarzneger film, he could be fluid in a slightly different way, perhaps this Saturday Jays dancing will improve a bit, we shall have to wait and see.

I'd rather be called Titzilla (like Kellie) than be insulted like Tristan in the following paragraph.

Is that not derogatory?
