I know people will jump down at me for this being early, but here it is anyway!

“It’s Christmas Day in the future and the TARDIS is parked on a snowy village street, covered in icicles, awaiting its next adventure. Time traveller River Song meets her husband’s new incarnation, in the form of Peter Capaldi, for the first time this Christmas.”

Sorry no trailer as yet I will post that when it comes.

yes they probably will 'jump down your throat' BECAUSE ITS TOO EARLY!!!!!!

The last episode hasn't even aired yet

In all seriousness there was a decent balanced debate a while back about when to start episode threads. Nobody seems to care one bit... as long as they are the first.

Lots of people didn't care but the vast majority of those who bothered voting were in favour of 1-2 days before air date. This is over three weeks. Its really beyond ridiculous especially as with it being a one off episode there aren't going to be much if anything in the way of spoilers or discussion points.

What exactly is achieved by this? Yet again the mods will have to step in because people on this forum can't just get their act together.

I wonder how many of these threads there will be by the 25th...

Then why do it? did you just decide 'I know, I'll go and antagonise everyone on the forum for my own pleasure'?

FFS!!!

I'm with you saladfingers, this has become a childish game of one-upmanship. There is no need to create any episode thread far in advance. People including myself agreed 1-2 days (on the poll that was created) before was more than fair.

Would be nice for other members to create episode threads now and then rather than the same four people on the forum.......

No so that discussions about the episode could be kept to the official thread.

But the point is you acknowledge in your opening post that you know people will be annoyed by such an early start, yet you did it anyway.

People moan about the threads being a week early. Did you really imagine that starting a thread over three weeks before an episode was going to be met with 'oh yay, about time'?

You may notice that EVERY post on the thread so far that isn't yours is complaining about the creation of the thread at this time, agreeing with people who already have complained about it or being sacrcastic about it.

I made a joke in another thread about how some of the early thread starters would probably try and start the Christmas thread next week. Didn't even imagine in my exaggerated joking that someone would do it over 3 weeks early and before even the season finale had aired.

Is this just a mischievous wind-up? Given the (admittedly quite funny) shenanigans with the duplicate Hell Bent threads, including comments about how someone will probably start a Christmas thread soon, this is surely just a laugh (?).

Incidentally there is already a thread http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=2120102 where very early speculation and pictures etc. can go until nearer the time. What will this thread do that the other one doesn't already?

I think you are having us on.

What's more funny is that the people create the thread ages in advance just to get the glory of having it pinned and having there name up there and being uncontrolled the thread. Don't even contribute to the thread discussion

Best thing to do is for someone to alert the mods and get this thread closed.

It's just going to end up with bickering.

Sorry, op this is unjustifiable 3 weeks early. (Not forgetting you didn't put the words official thread in the title )

You knew this would be frowned upon by your own admission but did it anyway.

What next.... Episode threads created as soon as the episode titles are released?

That's practically what's happened here, given that the title was only released a few days ago.

Why not do like on galifrey base and only start the thread(s) after the episode has aired?

Some of us have said sentiments like this or similar (such as at least starting the episode the day before) to the point where it almost feels like banging your head against a wall.

Unfortunately though, there are some who insist that they 'need' pre episode speculation on the official thread, and then there are the others who race each other to create the thread so that it gets earlier and earlier.

Sorry, but this thread should be locked until at least 19 Dec. Its wearing a bit thin now!

Some years ago I went a major Rugby League event at City's old ground, Main Road. Though well attended, it was by no means full but there were local kids breaking in by simply jumping the turnstiles. Nobody bothered, and after a while the scallies, who weren't interested in watching rugby league anyway, got bored and wandered off. They got bored because it was too easy and nobody made it exciting for them by shouting at them or chasing them off.

Why do I mention this seemingly unrelated sports event on a Doctor Who forum?

Some people here obviously think it's funny, or at least not boring to get a rise out of certain posters hearabouts. There's nothing practical that can be done to stop posters creating so called "official" threads ridiculously early if they want to. It's so easy to do and anything you might consider doing would essentially kill the forum.

Raging against it is as pointless as wrestling a pig. The pig enjoys it and you only end up getting dirty. It's like responding to a troll. It only adds fuel to the fire. Leave it alone. This childishness will play itself out soon enough because creating the threads is too easy and they'll get bored if you don't respond.

I can't imagine what we're seeing now is your desired outcome, salad. It's certainly not mine.

Reporting this to the mods. Th ey said they would start the thread if this duplicate nonsense and bickering continued and personally I think its for the best. It's great being able to start am episode thread but if we can't share the responsibility or behave like mature whovians then we shouldntbhave the privilege at all.

Agreed.

I think the actions of lotrjw are the final straw on this one - so in the future it will be more governed than has been. This could be the turning point. Shame we couldnt 'self govern' here.

although there has been a lot of 'light-heartedness' on the subject - this thread was not intended as a joke, merely as the normal 'me first' game that seems to have blighted the series 9 episode threads. And, however you look at it, 3 weeks before transmission and before the preceding episode has even aired is TOO SOON.
