Oh joy, yet another incarnation of a ridiculously too early Christmas episode thread.

Sigh.

Why start an identical thread to one started 4 hours before which has now been closed?

There really are some daft pillocks on this forum!

Unfortunately so, people are just using it to annoy people and provoke reaction

To amend a Ninth Doctor quote -

So this is what you should do: let these threads die. Don't comment just let this strange thread gather dust. and no one will even notice it. Let it become a strange little thing drifting down the forum. And over the years, the forum will move on, and these stupid threads will be locked'.

I'm sorry, but the other thread was not an "Official Thread". This is, and that is why I created it.

Please. Whoever reported the other thread and got it closed please also report this one and get it closed too.

With a response like that the op intention is clearly to annoy.

Op. If you are serious.... Look at the other thread. Understand why it was closed.

What a rude response. I'm happy for the thread to be closed if others prefer it, but to question my intentions is bang out of order.

It seems pointless to be making threads for an episode so early. I can't even think about the Christmas Special with the finale coming up, and likely won't do until the hype for the finale afterwards has died down.

You are aware that you currently don't have the requisite number of posts to add a poll when needed? For that reason and many others I agree that the best thing is for everyone to report this thread and ask the mods politely to close it.

Well, the poll isn't going to be needed until the day of transmission, so the OP has some 21 days in which to make 45 posts - hardly an impossible task. Since the thread has been opened already, I can't see the merit in trying to get this thread closed down in order to replace it with a virtually identical one in a few days' time. I don't think "that reason" works. What are the "many others"?

This thread was closed for a reason: http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=2120654

So why the hell does this one exist? You're not a celebrity, get yourself out of here!

He'd best get to it then, or he's going to be very unpopular on Christmas Day. :P

Bej doesn't seem to remember the last time someone who couldn't add a poll started an episode thread. It wasn't that long ago.

Well there must be at least one, as even the mod's seemed to agree that the other one was too early, which is why it was closed, yet this Op makes another one the very same day, thinking that because he has added the word 'official' when the other thread didn't that it somehow makes a difference.

The 'officialness' or otherwise of the thread is not the issue, it's the fact that it doesn't even seem reasonable for the thread to need to exist for at least another 2 weeks, and if it stays open it will be about 20 pages long of an arguement before the episode even airs.

It wont be a 'few days time'.

- the OP doesn't have the required number of posts
- the finale has not aired yet
- it is three weeks until the episode airs
- the idea there is a desperate need for an 'official episode thread' so people can discuss it is a myth. There is nothing to discuss, The spoiler thread and the announcement thread for the episode are more than adequate for those purposes
- the thread will most likely drop off the page
- if it doesn't it will only be due to a) Pointless thread bumping or B) Discussion not about the episode but about the thread itself
- a precedent was clearly set by the Mods locking the previous thread which was even started by an OP who could add a poll- therefore this thread is clearly a petulant attempt to stick two fingers up at the mods and most people on this forum
- it was obvious from the vote conducted that most favoured an episode thread being started a day or two before the episode- only 9% favoured over 3 days. Certainly no one supported 3 weeks

Shall I go on?

It is a truth universally acknowledged that the Christmas Special "The Husbands of River Song" will need an "official thread" at some point before the episode airs. Bej has providently supplied just such a thread, while allowing plenty of time for him to gain the credentials to add a poll before the episode airs. No-one is forced to visit this thread, still less add anything to it, but the moment has been prepared for. Why, then, do we have a number of otherwise respected contributors demanding that this (perfectly adequate) thread be abolished, so that it can be replaced with an identical thread in a few days' time? Do they really have nothing better to do?

Using the logic in this post it is therefore fine for someone to start episode threads for Season 10 and beyond then. And yet I'm sure even you would except that this would be a stupid thing to do? I've been reading this forum for like four years and posting for about three and in all that time no one has ever started an episode thread so early. There is clearly a good reason for that.

Do you have nothing better to do than fight on behalf of a thread that most people seem to agree is too early? Can you not ignore those of us calling for it to be abolished? If you literally don't care either way then why are you commenting? You have no horse in this race. Do you see how this works? The logic that 'it doesn't matter or cause any problems' is exactly what some people were saying weeks ago before late polls/no polls at all/multiple threads started to get more and more annoying. These things arent being caused by those of us asking for a degree of common sense. It is caused by those taking an 'i dont give a shit' attitude which is the antithesis of what creates a good community be it online or in real life. Of course if we are speaking in general terms it isnt all that important. Outside of the time spent on this forum it is a complete and utter irrelevance. But within the confines of the forum it is getting pretty damn annoying.

I agree with salad. This forum used to run like clockwork, people who posted episode threads did so in sensible time, and there was next to no bickering about it either. Posters generally got on with each other with baiting and trolling being rare and any personal beefs sorted out by PM. This is why people including more seasoned posters like us are complaining. Stuff like this is damaging and making th e forum less of a nice place to post in. And apparently the mods agree.

This is the thing. It is purely being done to wind people up. Thats obvious now. So why shouldnt we call them out on it? The Mods would and should be able to expect us to a degree to manage minor things like this amongst ourselves. Those that want to take a blind eye to it are just encouraging it more and more. Like you say- it didnt need to be said before. It seemed to just work out sensibly for the most part with no fuss and no rules. People just got along and used common sense. Now thats not happening. And it does amaze me somewhat that the response from some forum members is to blame those of us who complained about it in the first place! What unbelievable logic! So what we basically accept that some forum members want to behave like petulant brats and let them get on with it and indule that behaviour? Thats like saying if a surly adolescent is kicking the back of your seat in the cinema you shouldnt turn round and say anything and if you do say something and they then continue to do it then its your fault for confronting them! Erm no. Its the fault of the rude, antisocial moron kicking the back of your seat. Same applies here. That whole 'best say nothing lest you encourage them to do it more' is a cop out!

And with that I do solemnly swear that this is the last I have to say on the matter. I'm as bored of writing posts about it as people are reading them and actually I dont really give a flying fig either way. So I shall keep quiet and enjoy the finale tomorrow. Plus hey, its not like starting episode threads is going to be a problem in 2016 anyway so...

For an OP to create a Poll the OP has to have the relevant Post Count and Time on the Forum credentials the date they Start the Thread not when they try to put the Poll up.

We already went through this kerfuffle a few weeks back.

Sigh....

Look... you are aware of the other thread...you said as much.
You will also be aware the other thread was today locked because it was too early.

So...

Anyway, this thread will be locked too for the same reason.
