Is the Leeds threatre still going ?

Loved Larry Grayson, the man who every modern gay TV presenter shamelessly copies.

{ looks behind him and says " she'll do anything for a bag of mints }

I wonder if they should put one of the programmes on BBC2 or even BBC1 to show a larger audience what real variety was and what we are missing now.

Or get The One Show to get a couple of the surviving artists on along with showing some clips.

BBC4 is an excellent channels but I am sure many people never even check it in the schedules.

The Good Old Days is back on BBC4 this Friday at 8pm with Ronnie Corbett, Kenneth McKeller, Rosemary Squires and the Looneys.

Looks like there is no repeat of the show though.

Just coming to the end now. Kenneth McKeller was in fine voice and Ronnie Corbett as usual got loads of laughs from very little. He sure knows how to do it. Magnificent entertainment.

McKeller was very good, but Rosemary Squires (when was the last time you heard that name!) was the highlight for me.

I enjoyed Denny Willis and the Quorn Quartet (the hunting song) as I saw it performed live several years ago when my father took me to variety shows. It is on you tube as well.

"Come come come and make eyes at me,
down at the Old Bull and Bush"

It's on again tonight folks!

The beeb in their intermittent manner have another show from the archives at 20:00 on BBC4.

This time with Ken Dodd topping the bill. Even if it's only a short turn by Mr Dodd's standards it'll still be worth a watch I'd say.

As is this week's edition which includes Frankie Howerd so I'm hoping it will be good.

I timed it. He did a 20 minute turn which on that programme is probably unheard of by any other act.

I understood the double entendres this time around though which probably explains why I didn't take to him outside of the Diddy Men shows back in those days!

Looks like there is an error with the date this week, as although the BBC website reckons the episode is from 1976 http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b070st3l, the line-up in fact corresponds with one from a 1979 episode: http://genome.ch.bbc.co.uk/9991d2c8c...5ed21418ab08d4.

So it does! Perhaps we'll find out from an updated epg on the night?

So now it looks very much like the BBC website had the correct date after all - 18th March 1976 (Genome link: http://genome.ch.bbc.co.uk/e9e13a69a...cabdb0060dfeb3), but the line-up on the website, the EPG and even read out by the continuity announcer is wrong!

So no Frankie Howerd tonight, we'll be getting Val Doonican instead! I wonder how this kind of mix-up can have happened?

Hylda's act changed very little over the years. "I must get a little hand put on this watch" makes me laugh just as much today as when I were a lad.

As for Ken Dodd, his "don't go down the pit Grandad, there's plenty of slack in your pants" kills me every time!

Never liked him. Me and my mum went up to him when I was a 5 year old to try and get his autograph when he was at the Biggin Hill Air Show one year and he told us to f*** off

For years I thought orchestra leader Bernard Herrmann was the same chap who wrote film themes for Alfred Hitchcock.
Yes I too was a bit puzzled by this, however these are two different people with the same name, a remarkable coincidence.

So this was a different episode to the one advertised (with Frankie Howerd) - but Val Doonican - crikey that really did take me back, we used to watch his Saturday night show en famille - children/parents/Grandma - all watching one show at the same time.

Wouldn't happen now!
