I'd like to see a 21st re-boot of THE GOOD OLD DAYS. Jessie Wallace doing her Marie Lloyd, Peter Kay doing a sing-song, Sir Ian McKellern doing a bit of drag, Alan Carr doing a bit of a turn, and all hosted by David Tenannt. Perhaps, a COMIC RELIEF special?

I'd rather not. The format is of it's time. There's few "specialty acts" left, which made the show entertaining.

Excellent. Can you remember. Was it on Thursday nights after the 9 o'clock news when you used to watch it?

On again tonight 20:00. Another one with Arthur Askey and Terry Scott. I always get nervous when it's headline acts they've shown before on fairly recent editions but I realise these people made repeated appearances at the time, hence their popularity.

Alas, I have no year of production indicated on my EPG again this week.

Thanks North Downs. I note from my records that the last Terry Scott edition they showed was from 1973. By that token the last Arthur Askey one was from 1972 with Eartha Kitt.

Sadly, I can't recall what night it was on but after the 9 O'Clock new rings a bell.

Another one I recall watching from back in the day. Not seen tonight's broadcast of it as yet as I have been out but going down to watch it with a large glass if wine very soon.

Terry Scott IMO was not good. However that Sheila woman who was married to harry H Corbett was absolutely crap pretending to be a drunk. .

Was she supposed to be drunk or just a bad singer / performer? I couldn't tell a word of what she was singing anyway.

No she was meant to be a young school girl going up on stage for the first time. Leonard Sax made a big thing of doing a parody introduction beforehand to humour her charactor coming on stage. She was doing a sort of childy voice bit like Terry Scott's schoolboy charactor.

I didn't really get it to be honest, and I never did the Terry Scott one, but in his case it always seemed to be a favourite somehow so I'm guessing the same about Sheila's charactor.

From reading up about Sheila, (I must admit I recognised her face when I saw her but not the name when I read it beforehand), it seems she always had a spell of banter and flirting with Sax on the show as part of the act.

Ok the Olympic stuff is out of the way and the proms are finally over, now we're back to normal scheduling again for the autumn.

We have The Good Old Days back on again tonight at 8pm - BBC 4.

Not sure what year it is from, my EPG didn't say but it features Roy Castle and Ray Allen among others.

Only for tonight though as far as I can see - not on again next week....

Ah that's a shame. I would imagine though with no royalties to pay on episodes of over 30 years old and thus very low overheads, that these shows are not only very easy to chop and change from the schedulings at a moment's notice, but also make very good padding for any gaps that may crop up inadventently in a future evening's programming.

Very good show last night. It was from 1975.

Roy Castle did and excellent turn showing off on various wind instruments and then a tap dance routine.

They had a couple of superb quality soprano singers too.

Strangely I set this to record in my EPG at the weekend but when I looked for it late last night it had simply vanished.

Watched a bit of it on iPlayer but it was playing up due to a weak internet signal so will catch up with it later.

I'm hoping next Fridays Lost Weekend with Keith Richards is one of those themed evenings/weekends that BBC4 do and The Good Old Days is back with us the week after.

Last night's show was from 1975.

A good comedy act from Bill Pertwee and Terrence Alexander and a very good turn a double entendre comedy song by Bernard Cribbins. Very enjoyable.

Was out last night so I'm looking forward to catching up with this after dinner with a large glass of wine.

I do so hope that they show as many of these as possible, guess they won't show they ones with Stuart Hall in the audience.

Can't they get around it with a bit of judicious editing? Anyway Stuart Hall has served his time, let's move on.

Just been watching last night's episode. It was 1975 again.

Not sure it was a very good episode. The only really decent act was Georgia Brown who I think probably saved the day.

Agree it wasn't the best although Sheila Steafel was a vast improvement from the last edition she was in. Arthur Askey just seemed like a repeat of the last one he starred in.

Arthur Askey's act seemed a bit twee and dated I thought. Even though he was still a big showbiz personality back then even at that age. I remember at the time even we'd heard of him and we just kids of about ten.

I found this by accident after EE on Friday while looking at the EPG. I was usually in bed by the time it came on until the early 80s so only remember seeing those. My parents were huge fans. My mum would have loved seeing these again. I remember her ooohing to all those fancy words Leonard Sachs used to say and singing along at the end. My dad really enjoyed it and we spent Saturday afternoon watching the other two available on iPlayer. I hope they repeat them all.

Good on you supermeguk, nice to hear of your memories.

Not sure how long it will keep being on for. They have been showing them on and off since last December but I hope it lasts.
