Patricia Brake played Ronnie Barker's daughter, Ingrid, in Porridge and its sequel Going Straight.

Patricia Hayes was famed for comedy roles in the likes of Till Death Us Do Part, Hancock's Half Hour and The Benny Hill Show and she won a BAFTA playing it straight in the 1971 Play For Today, Edna The Inebriated Woman.

Freudian slip. I knew the face and remembered her being around at the time, but the mind switched to the wrong name for some reason.

I actually have a copy of Edna The Inebriated Woman. I downloaded it from somewhere about five years ago. It was filmed on locations in and around the Waterloo area in London. An area where I worked for some years until 2010 and got to know well.

Patricia Brake of course I always associate with the TV series The Glums, and then later in El Dorado.

Yes, an act very expertly performed, I enjoyed it too.
The 'Mr Humphries' charactor he was more famed for probably didn't do him the most credit, even if it was generally very successful. He took a lot of stick for it being too stereo-typical though.

I saw a couple recently. One with Danny La Rue with his "watcha mates" line showing what a man he was (cough) and of course at the end he removed all the slap and performed On Mother Kelly's Doorstep . If you read about his final years it's sad that he lost everything and ended up living in his dresser's home.
Then there was Ken Goodwin who died due to Alzheimer's.
And another with Tessie O'Shea who died of heart failure in her home in Florida.
All quite sad . Like watching An Audience With where you think "dead, dead, dead. Alive. Dead. Dead. Dead. "

Caught up with the past two weeks. Sheila Steafel is beginning to bore me. She does the same thing every single time. Loved Patricia Hayes, John Inman and Val Doonican. Some of the lesser known acts are good too.

Yes I agree about Sheila Staefel. Maybe very clever but a bit slap sticky. Don't need to see that act too often.

Watched the episode late last night, assisted by some lovely red wine. I enjoyed it, (the show as well as the red wine) and it was good to see Mike Reid again.

I notice tonight's edition in my listings magazine seems to have been pulled according to iplayer in place of "Cellists at the BBC".

Shame really as tonight's was due to feature Barbara Windsor and Norman Collier amongst others.

Barbara Windsor did a couple of musical comedy turns that were fairly typical of the stuff she was known for. It was good seeing Norman Collier again, I always liked him. I'd forgotten that bird impression thing he did but it still worked just about. Not sure about the Keith Harris thing though. It was very new still when he was first doing that and we all loved it of course, but there is no way it would work now. Still I suppose he got 10 or 15 years out of it.

Gosh, Jan Hunt hit a few dodgy notes, not sure what was going on with her. She wasn't exactly known for being an opera singer though so we can't be too harsh.

A good show tonight. Better than a few of late.

Norman Collier is one of those comedians who is just naturally funny. I've only got to see him break into his rooster routine and I'm laughing. There were a few comedians who didn't really have to tell a gag or fall on their backsides to get the audience roaring, and Collier was one of them, he was just funny. A lot of the time, you don't know why you're laughing, but you can't stop.

Agree about Norman Collier. These people were genuinely funny and talented but probably wouldn't stand a chance on TV if they started out today. I also cannot imagine anyone but Leonard Sachs as the Chairman. I'm really pleased the Beeb has repeated this blast from the past. Roll on the Xmas edition!

Caught up with last night's. Always love seeing Danny La Rue. His ballerina was hilarious. The Hot Dogs were funny. Can't find anything about them on Google. I saw Duggie Brown on a cruise in 2009 and he was just as funny.
