my dvd player has dts and dd decoding and i want to get the videologic digitheatre set. Because the set does not decode dts, i would like to decode both dts and dd on the dvd player.

So, can i output the decoded signal as digital out, and would the digitheatre be able to play them??

my dvd player has both optical and coaxial out. The audio out option is spdif/raw or spdif/pcm.

Thanks

I think you have got your wires crossed here. The digital output on the back of your dvd player (be it optical or coaxial) outputs the bitstream audio signal on the DVD only, absolutely no decoding takes place when using this output, the sound track is sent out as it is read from the DVD.

This then connects to your receiver, which in you case cannot handle DTS signals, hence when you watch a film with DTS and select the DTS soundtrack your receiver will stop working, you can obviously enjoy the standard Dolby Digital soundtrack if this is also present on the disk.

If you DVD player has a built in decoder, you can connect the six-analogue outputs from this to your receiver, you'll need to check your receiver has the six analogue inputs, most do not. Furthermore, using this option will most probably only give you Dolby Digital, as many DVD players don't actually decode the DTS soundtrack.

I would advise that you choose any receiver set that can handle both sound types, personally I have the SONY HTK-275, it's a small unit which has DD/DTS decoding with 2 optical inputs, plus additional analogue inputs for other devices (video eg). The kit comes complete with 5 satellite speakers and a powered sub-woofer.

What DVD player do you have?
Also if it decodes DD and DTSin your player then theoretically all you need is amplification and speakers to get the sound

Pyara has the HTK 215 Sony system as far as I am aware. If you retype this code in you should find it on your site. I have the same home cinema kit too and can recommend it.

Cheers Wicket, that's right, try a search on unbeatable.co.uk or pricerunner.com.

It's a good little system and comes complete with everything you need included a powered sub-woofer (although I use another one instead)

Guys...really confused here!!
Ive got the HTK215 (nice piece of kit) However my Philips DVD only has Digital Coax output.... fine for connecting to TV as it has a jack for this.
After reading in the forums there is a converter out there... I obtained 1 yesterday but when connected and the DVD switch is used I get the message 'unlocked'...
Has anyone else used one of these converters??? as Im not sure if its faulty or not... or does it just doesnt convert.???
Is my best option to get 5.1 to keep the connection to the TV and use the TV switch... or is it simply that 5.1 can only be created through the optical connection...????
Cheers
D

eagerbeaver, sorry to hear that you are still having problems. Basically the only way you will get 5.1/dts sound is via an optical connector between your dvd player to your amp.

I have had no experience with these coaxial/digital convertors you are on about. Have you actually tried playing a dvd through it? When you press dvd on the amp, it comes up with 'unlock' but as soon as you start playing a dvd player the sound is channelled through in Dolby Digital. Just a thought but I suspect you have already tried this.
