As to be expected of course, the trailers alone were stunning. 85% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes at the moment: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_..._2015/reviews/

The two stand out elements are Leonardo DiCaprio's performance and Lubezki's cinematography. The only 'negative' seems to be the fact that a couple of critics want some attention. The minor butthurt backlash was to be expected, the director had only last year won Best Director and Best Picture at the Oscars.

Can't wait to see this

Not massively thrilled about Dicaprio in the lead role for this, I'm sure he'll give a good performance but he always looks like a teenager, I'd have preferred someone with a bit more gravitas and maturity, like some Robert Shaw type. Still looking forward to it tho.

I've always been against anything piracy related but man, the prospect of seeing something shot by the legend that is Emmanuel Lubezki on a crappy DVD screener is cringe inducing.

However did you survive before the advent of high definition home viewing, you poor thing? The quality is great so far as DVDs go.

Absolutely. I saw the trailer for it on a 3D IMAX screen last night and you really need to watch this on a big screen. The visuals are immense.

Controversial opinion maybe, but the film while unquestionably gorgeous to look at in places, it is also beyond tedious. There are only so many shots of Leo crawling one can watch before just hoping Hardy shoots him.

Caught the review on Film 2015 and it looks fantastic, really looking forward to this one. The Grizzly Bear scene was just jaw dropping

I'm a big fan of Leo and anything but this really doesn't seem like my cup of tea

It is, but it happens 24 minutes into a 2 hour 26 minute long film, which could have badly done with Roger Corman explaining to them why films are better if they're 89 minutes.

The narrative isn't there to sustain that run time.

He certainly worked for it. Tom Hardy's performance was just as good, if not better. Could he get best supporting?

Tom Hardy should be nominated in the best actor category for legend against Dicaprio

Saw this today - absolutely beautifully shot with some astonishing visual moments, it does start to drag a little near the end though given the millions of Leo-crawls-across-the-ground-grunting scenes It almost got comical near the end the stuff his character goes through, as if they're so desperate for him to win the Oscar they'll literally throw everything at him!

Hardy also great. Wish I hadn't seen the trailer though as a big plot point gets kinda spoiled in it.

Alas, no amount of arduous effort will win you an oscar. It's all down to what you achieve rather than how.

Sounds similar to his crawling scene in The Wolf of Wall Street. Been a big fan of DiCaprio for years but it's all becoming a bit much now. I'm sure he doesn't deliberately pick every script with an Oscar in mind but I don't know. He has a knack for picking great projects with great directors, it helps with his box off clout. But the 'Leo chasing an Oscar' meme is hard to get out of my head with the characters he plays. Almost too concious but not quite.

I saw this at Odeon Screen Unscreen and absolutely despised it.

Obviously Odeon Screen Unscreen, you pay £5 for an advanced screening of a movie but the catch is you don't know what the movie is going to be. So when this showed up I thought "Oh cool, Leonardo Di Caprio's in this, it should be good". But no. God no. It's overly violent (I'm not prudish at all and love gory horror films but the bear scene was the most uncomfortable I've ever been in a cinema) and self indulgent. The characters are all one dimensional and the only ones who get any sort of personality at all are Leo's and Tom Hardy's.

Far too many shots of Leo just crawling, or grunting, or starting a fire, with that same sequence recurring almost throughout the 2hr30 minute movie that honestly could have been cut down to 35 minutes I feel like so much of it was absolute pointless time filler.

Not to say it was a total disaster; both Leonardo and Tom were great in the movie, the cinematography was also beautiful. But those two aspects are in my opinion the only saving graces in an otherwise bad film.

Great film, very engaging and the viewer invests emotionally in the characters, I went away happy.

Heard this isn't very much of an acting performance by Leo, one of my fav actors especially his early work and still love him in films like Inception, Shutter Island, Catch Me If You Can etc but from what I'm hearing most people who you want him to win are saying because he has deserved an Oscar for years rather then he gave the best performance by an actor this year

Have to agree. Nothing happens in this film. Just Leo crawling around wounded. The entire film is predictable.
Hateful 8, on a similar theme,is more interesting although it's more like a play than a film. It's More interesting as there's more going on in the film.

Can't fault the beautiful visuals though.

Not exactly Last of the Mohicans, took me a while to realise the other guy was Tom Hardy, Leo on the other hand looked like Leo.

Whereas Clint Eastwood managed to bring out the flavour of his various characters through his rugged movie star looks Leo looks like he's just pulling serious faces. He really should do lighter roles like Wolf on Wall Street, he was great in that.
