This short guide shows how to add Google Playstore and remove forced ads on login screen (for the £35 version on sale as a special offer) to an Aamazon Fire 7.

You can go to your Amazon ACCOUNT and pay £10 to get rid of ads only.

HOWEVER, you can do it free and install GOOGLE PLAYSTORE at the same time which allows you to access a lot more Android apps (The Fire is basically an Android tablet but restricted).

WARNING - This guide is not for total beginners, and there is a risk you could brick the tablet. Only do this if you are prepared to take the risk and have some understanding of updating drivers and modifying driver files etc.

DO NOT SHOOT THE MESSENGER IF YOU GET IT WRONG, or does not work

You basically follow this guide but with two important changes as below.

1) you have to add these three lines to the android_winusb.inf driver file in the [Google.NTx86] and [Google.NTamd64] sections

;Amazon Fire 7
%SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_1949&PID_0222&MI_00
%CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_1949&PID_0222&REV_????&MI_00

It is possible you need to change USB\VID_1949&PID_0222&MI_00 and USB_Install, USB\VID_1949&PID_0222&REV_????&MI_00 if the Hardware IDs (device manager and look at Fire device) are different to that on my tablet.

2) You have to temporarily disable driver signatature enforcement on PC with and advanced startup.

When you install the adb drivers, you may get warnings about file being tampered with - just ignore that.

http://www.howtogeek.com/232726/how-...n-fire-tablet/

Did this, and no enforced ads on lock screen, and I can now download various android apps nota avilable in the Aamazon Appstore including the chromecast app.

I can now mirror the Fire 7 to TV.

If you want to use say BBC Iplayer (say) with chromecast support, you have to download via google playstore not the Amazon Apps Store.

You may also get warnings about the Google version not being the latest Amazon Apps version. Ignore them because it will update to the Amazon version which does not support chromecast.

For some reason Netflix chromecast does not appear but does for BBC Iplayer and All4 for example.

The service has improved for me since Amazon finally decided to add Sky Go to their app store. I'm not a novice with messing about with software, but am cautious how this could invalidate a guarantee.

I'm grateful for your post, as there are five Amazon devices in our household, plus three stock Android ones. It would be handy to root my daughters otherwise wonderful hdx, so thank you.

I went one stage further and followed this guide to root my fire 7 (not hd model) and it only took a few minutes. I then followed guide in video to replace the fire launcher with another (APEX launcher is pretty good).

Now tablet is pretty much a full rooted android.

(need es file explorer with root option turned on, or similar)

MY USUAL CAVEAT : This could brick tablet and would almost certainly invalidate warranty. Do not do if not prepared to take risk.

As it is rooted, you can now install TEAMVIEWER QUICK SUPPORT on it and TEAMVIEWER on PC, and yo can take full remote control of tablet from the PC even over internet, and as rooted is fairly responsive over a LAN.

So, you get a call at home about how to do something on tablet - take control and show them, install stuff etc.

Full remote control only works if rooted, or an unrooted device supported by Teamviewer (Samsungs in particular).

You still have partial access though even if you do not root ie you can see screens if using lollipop, and you can talk person through screens.

Well tried to be too clever today and bricked my new Fire 7 (activity unrelated to steps above).

So was annoyed because I had made a silly mistake - knew it the moment I pressed enter. So I searched web and found Kindle allow you to download the stock ROM from their website.

http://kindle-fire-updates.s3.amazon..._522054520.bin

Next challenge was working out how to reinstall it.

Found this guide.

http://www.andromods.com/unroot-lock...-to-stock.html

I copied the .bin file (calling it kindle.bin) above to the same directory as the root batch command in earlier post (containing adb.exe and fatsboot)

I connected Fire with adb debugging onm as per guide above and typed following in a command prompt with admin rights

adb sideload kindle.bin (took about 20 minutes)

After that I cleared the android cache rom the recovery menus and restarted tablet.

It reinstall Fireos 5.01 and after 10 minutes, the Kindle was back to its stock ROM (unrooted) and started up fine. PANIC over.

Interestingly, the stock ROM is the standard one, not the custom one with ads.

Once got it working, I was able to reinstall Google Playstore and root the Kindle again.

In the end, it was easy to recover tablet, so if you brick it - Don't Panic'.

Are you saying that if you put the stock ROM on a Fire 7 it removes the ads?

Looks like it.

Only the ads on the lockscreen of course. Obviously the reduced price tablets must have had a tweaked OS.

There was only one download option, so I took a chance that this would not be an issue.
I did wonder but had nothing to lose at this point. Fortunately worked out fine.

However, the method I showed in my first post is much quicker and easier though - just; unnuing a batch file.

I just tried this today; sad to say it doesn't remove the ads from the 2015 Kindle Fire.

I did a bit of research and it seems the ads setting is actually part of your online Amazon profile, not in the ROM.

I am puzzled because I do not get any ads at all now. Maybe we are talking crosswires as I possibly did not make it clear I was referring to the ads on the start screen, not ads on various tabs.

Having said that I rooted my device and replaced the launcher completely and do not get any ads at all. If you go down this route, you have to backup and delete the stock launcer, then you can select your own.

However, if you reset the tablet, it deletes your new sideloaded launchers, and if you forget to reinstate old launcher, you end up without a launcher, and you cannot do much at all. I discovered this the hard way, and that is when I installed the stock app which fortunately worked.

One minor irritation is if you install an app from google playstore which is also in the amazon appstore, you get a notification from amazon appstore even though you have the google version. The google version tends to be more up to date as well ie you get update to update from an older version even though you are running latest version.

I installed the stock ROM and then setup the tablet with my Amazon account. I still get ads on the start screen. I haven't tried anything else.

Perhaps it is because I installed the stock item it after I stopped the ads the first time and somehow my tablet remembers the change?

Not an ad in sight for me on start screen. I guess you need to run the batch file in my first post earlier. I assume you have rooted device to install stock rom, but rooting is not needed to remove ads.

Again, I just installed the stock ROM using the bricked/recovery method from your post #6. The stock ROM by itself does not stop the ads on the lock screen.

I will perhaps try some of the techniques in your first post and see what happens.

If you want to remove the ads, just use the chat feature on the Amazon site under Contact Us. Just say you are getting ads on your lock screen which you did not expect. They will tell you that is part of a reduced special offers model and ask if you were aware of this. Just say no and they will remove the ads free of charge. I did this today and whole process took less that 5 mins.

Sure if that is all you want to do, but installling google playstore using methods here really enhances Fire 7. I can now chromecast from it.

I followed RootJunky's 5.1.1 SuperTool tutorial on YouTube and used it to root this device, remove the ads, install the Play Store and disable OTA updates. I didn't bother to replace the Fire launcher with Nova Launcher because widgets don't work on Fire OS, which limits what you can do with Nova Launcher. The rooting process got stuck on the FastBoot screen so I followed the instructions in the top YouTube comment to install the Android USB driver. Restarted the tool and then the rooting worked perfectly after that.

I'm hoping to replace the Fire OS with a proper Android OS. Three have been tested on this Fire tablet - CyanogenMod (CM), SlimROM and Resurrection Remix - but as they all appear to have bugs I'm waiting for a stable release of one of them.

Just bought the fire 7 myself and quite pleased, only gripe is not being able to use Google play store and only being limited to the apps on Amazon.
Not brave enough to try rooting or any other method to resolve it .

The Amazon store isn't quite as rammed as the Google one, but we've found it usually covers the main stuff. The main problem I have is not being able to add a different browser. I don't get why Amazon would be so scared of letting users install Firefox.

I said to the missus that if she found the whole Amazon thing too frustrating I would add the Play store or root the device as applicable, but so far it's covered everything she needs from it and she hasn't put it down. Just give us Firefox please Amazon!

You do not need to root it to add playstore.

The steps I outlined in first post are actually quite safe, but I add the warning to cover my rear in case somebody does something really stupid but tbh, it is quite safe really.

The later rooting instructions are more risky, and should only be done if you understand the process. Main reason for rooting is to use a different launcher, which is nice, but yiu can still use the standard launcher of course, ie no need to root.

Adding playstore reeally does enhance tablet's abilities, especially if you use chromecast.

He means these 3 lines of code:

;Amazon Fire 7
%SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_1949&PID_0222&MI_00

Yes, I know but where do I find the .inf file that I add these lines to?

I have searched and not found a file with the same name.
