scart block help please
jubbly
22-04-2005
I have had sky for a couple of years now and i have only just worked out today that the numb nuts sky blockey who installed it had the digibox connected to av2 scart on the back of my television and as my tv only supports rgb on av1 i wasn't getting an rgb signal.
So i have moved it over to av1 now.

I have an xbox and gamecube which i want to use through av1 as well to get rgb but it is a right pain having to keep swapping the scarts around.

I don't want to use av2 or av3 as they don't support rgb.

I am looking at these scart switch boxes which i presume i can just plug into av1 on my tv and then connect sky, gamecube, and xbox to and get rgb through all of them.
But none of the models i have seen in argos, index etc mention rgb at all.
Does anyone know if they are rgb or not ?

I noticed that the 9.99 one in argos was recomended in an earlier post which i believe is the one which doesn't come with a scart cable.
Am i right in thinking a need to make sure i connect this scart box with a rgb compatible scart cable ?
If so i have the same problem again as they vary from 2.99 to 40.00 but don't mention if they have rgb ?

Any help appreciated.

You Do realise the XBOX and Gamecube Aren't RGB Compatable (without a special cable) Anyway?

That's the boy I use. It even has an RGB on/off switch so I can also connect my VCR to dub to my DVDR.

Yes i have the official gamecube and xbox rgb cables.

That scart block you have suggested says in the faq that Only SCART C and TV are RGB wired ?

Does anyone know if any of the argos or index ones have ALL ports rgb wired ?

cheers

The argos 10-quid switching block seems to be fully wired (certainly does rgb and wss) - have used it for sky+xbox+gamecube no probs. You will need to supply your own scart cables though...

Nice one thanks for that.

I know with sky you can tell the difference because you can switch between rgb and pal on the menu screen and you can clearly see that rgb is clearer and brighter.

But how can you tell with xbox and gamecube if it is rgb or composite ?

Also with the ten quid argos one you have suggested i presume i need to make sure that the scart lead that i use to connect it to the tv is fully wired and rgb compatible ?
Can i just use the lead that i currently have coonecting the skybox to my tv ?

Yes, you need fully-wired scarts to carry the vital R, G, B and pin-8-WSS signals (the picture is only as good as the weakest link). Your xbox lead also needs to be a proper RGB one and you need to make sure to set any picture menus/options to output RGB - the difference between RGB (rich colour, sharp lines) and composite (fuzzy and washed out) should be pretty obvious, even on the green xbox menus.

I bought the 10 quid jobby from argos and it is fully rgb on all ports, bargain !!!
I'm even using a £3 scart from tesco's which again is fully rgb and has gold connectors.

How can other companies justify charging £30 for similar scart boxes and £20/£40 for similar scart cables as i bet that they aren't much better ?

I don't understand why anyone would spend loads of money on other ones when this does the trick perfectly.

I also use the one from Maplins, works perfectly with no problems.

The one in maplins is actually the same as the one in argos which i got even though the picture in the book is different.

Why does the faq say Only SCART C and TV are RGB wired ?
