I'd say it's because the majority people have felt sorry for her; especially when comparing her dresses against the gowns Katie has been wearing. Saying that they've gone out of their way on It Takes Two to stress that they go with what the respective celebrity feels comfortable in but, if the costume is wrong, some of the magic is lost.

As soon as I saw Jay yesterday I asked if he had just come from a Rodeo.

What's next ? A thread about Jay's hair ? . Oh wait a min. .....that already happened

Well to be fair, a lot of people on twitter last night couldn't stop discussing his outfit . They thought he just came from the pub or that all the costume department budget was spent on other clothes. ..the comments were hilarious

It wasn't a Disney outfit no ... that seems to be a problem in some people's eyes.
The man is a busker ... what do you expect him to wear .. black trousers and a white blouse ... like Gleb last week!?!”

This one would have been nice and in keeping with Aliona I thought

That would have been excellent. And no black formal shoes with blue jeans! Win win

To be fair that would have been so much better than the Lumberjack look.

My point was that for some the same rules dont apply to everyone it seems .They can point and laugh at some costumes and yet no one it seems can criticize Jays in their eyes

Yeah, thats the one I was describing, looks more fitting for a rhumba too.

It's not really nitpicking though is it? Costume is a huge part of the performance. If it wasn't they may as all do it in the same outfit. Or in their vest and knickers like you do PE at school if you forget your kit

It wasn't a great outfit. Aliona's was worse though!

I thought Jay's outfit was just fine....unlike Georgia & Giovanni's vile concoctions, which were vomit inducing.

As for Jay, he was kitted out in an outfit that followed the film and stage show styling of the Musical they were allocated - as did all the celebs - not sure what there is to discuss .”

I don't have a problem with that - my problem is associating it with the rhumba. I don't like the rhumba at all, but would find it more acceptable if the dancers wore costumes that reflect the type of dance it is and IMHO it is not a jeans & plaid shirt type of dance - more of a jive type of costume. I don't know why 'someone' chose this particular music & consequently the outfit, for the rhumba. Can't help thinking that if it had been anyone else but Jay, there would be far more FMs complaining about how inappropriate it was.

Far more?! He's got a five page thread dedicated to criticising his outfit! Some are acting like people have barely commented on it.

Genuinely baffled that his outfit has caused such an outrage.

But it is in the context of their assigned story in 'musicals week' where, as explained, they're emulating/portraying the two characters. The usual cliché Gleb-type clothes and bedsheet simply would not have been authentic, appropriate or worked artistically.

I realise that wardrobe SAY that they go with outfits the celebrity feels comfortable in, but that can't possibly be true - did Scott Mills honestly look comfortable when they dressed him as a lobster?

I know. I did try to explain very carefully that I thought the music & consequently the outfit, was inappropriate for the rumba.

Of all the musicals in all the world - why pick that one??

Be fair, Scott Mills didn't look comfortable when they dressed him as a human being.

I don't think there's an issue with the musical - I thought it was a sound choice. But the costume did leave a lot to be desired and I think it would have worked better with the dance had he worn something like this (as posted above):

But he could have worn dark jeans and a plain shirt and would have looked appropriate to the character and to the dance.

It's what they did for Katie. Sally Bowles didn't wear dresses with feathers but a floaty dress is best to show off the lines and sway of a foxtrot. So they combined both the theme of Cabaret and the correct shaped dress.

Why are people still bleating on about this. i would have thought it obvious from the get go that the outfit was what the character wore in the musical. Simple.

Well, that's a whole different kettle of Strictly Musical fish

Why have Nancy dancing with the Artful Doger ... Why have an AT to a straight tango track ... Why have a paso to At the end of the Day when even the stage show stars were a bit mmokay about it ... Why have a shuffling teapot when Beast isn't Beast ... So many whys that a plaid shirt is bottom of the list

There is discussion, then there is repeating the same thing, over and over and over...

Because despite the reasoning behind it he didn't look good in the outfit. It's the same as we have been saying about Kellie for weeks (though she looked lovely at last on Saturday). It is a significant part of the whole dance so when people are querying why some of us didn't enjoy it as much as expected what he was wearing is part of it.
