I have to say I think some people are falling for the judges' overly harsh criticism of Anita. I thought her footwork was awkward at the beginning but generally I liked her dance; she made a good attempt at a difficult routine. I also thought Katie's dance was rather dull and that being in hold hides her weaknesses as a dancer (she's certainly the weakest left in the competition, and would likely be out by now if she weren't dancing with Anton); Kellie's I enjoyed but it seemed a bit clumsy and I could barely tell it was a VW; and Helen's was probably the poorest dance of the night, never seen her so wobbly! Yet somehow Anita copped much harsher criticism than the others.
The judges can choose to comment on each dancer's weakest points or not, and while there's generally some truth in what they say, the decision of whether to focus on a particular dancer's weak points in any specific week is obviously guided by who they'd ideally like to be in the dance-off. It's not that Anita was so much more awful than the others, it's that this week they chose to focus on her weak points and ignore those of some of the others. Without question, they could've made just as harsh criticisms of several of the other dancers as they did for Anita, had they chosen to do so - I think perhaps only Georgia was truly excellent tonight.
On the other hand, just WHY they chose this week to focus on Anita isn't clear - they could just as easily be trying to drum up support for her as to land her in the dance-off. It's often those who get good but not outstanding feedback from the judges who end up leaving, whereas criticising Anita in the way they did may well increase her support.
