Of course there arewonderful even if had fallen on his backside!

Even worse for me was the overmarking of Kellie/Kevin - about 30s of a VW in hold, and that pretty ordinary - unbelievable!

Anita on the other hand they ripped to shreds....

A really poor performance from the judges - I give them 1 !”

Agree with everything you've said. I like Jay but he does have a tendency to be a bit boring IMO.

Have to admit that they have become a good laugh...no matter what they say Jay is a brilliant dancer and is enjoyed by many

Happily, I've forgotten all that. Most Hollins voters (including me!) were just having an adolescent moment and sticking two fingers up to the judges surely?
On the over-hyping of Jay topic, even as blokearumbas go, I still prefer Colin Jackson's and even Matt di Angelo's (to a ridiculous Christmas song as I remember).

And I think this is a big issue - when the criticism becomes personal.

Everyone has their own opinion on the quality of the dance and every couple's technique is either the best ever or worst ever to be seen depending on whether they're liked or not. But I don't think I've seen the same level of personal criticism directed at the other remaining couples which has been aimed at Jay (maybe Kellie to a lesser extent). I stress 'remaining' because Peter and, to a lesser extent at the start, Jamelia also suffered from this.

The Jamelia hate was really nastly and some people had some other issues.

Of course he is .But are you denying that others have a different opinion and simply were not blown away .? Or do you laugh at every opinion that differs from yours ? Just wondering .?

I've seen nasty things said about many of the celebs but agree it seemed particularly bad about Jamelia. (I'm also disregarding Peter for the purposes of this post as his comments were often off the scale!). I wasn't a huge fan of hers as I didn't really know much about her prior to Strictly but was puzzled by the negativity here.

And while I am sure awful things have been said about Jay I don't think this thread includes anything awful. Most people are balanced and polite. There are nutters on both sides of fandom Most of us are thankfully in the middle ranges.

I've often wondered this about men. How do you stop yourself getting erm over excited shall we say, when you know you're not meant to? Is there a special something you wear to keep things in order?

As a straight female I can still see Aliona is a very attractive woman, and dancing that close you have to wonder....

God ... I second that! I hate the male rumba's ... cringe! This was lyrical and beautiful and to me .. they were in the moment. Gorgeous!
Not at all over marked. Anita got one 9 and an 8 for her effort which completely lacked fluidity, had an illegal lift and messy footwork (her rumba that is ... don't get me started on her AT.)

This was my favourite dance of the night. It drew me into the story and music etc.

I think the Jamelia hate gradually subsided and she was overtaken by Peter. Indeed, it feels like the board has to have a target for personal criticism - first it was Jamelia, then Peter (which the hypocritical side of me kind of got ) and now Jay.

I most certainly do think that others have the right to there opinion....but on these threads there are those that will bash Jay for no reason whatsoever. I am not saying you are one of them...but those that do are laughable.

He was aweome. I hate the rumba normally but this moved me (and i've a heart of stone!).
If anything he was undermarked i thought he deserved a 40.
How the hell did Kellies jog around the dance floor get four 9s?

Jay's dancing has been criticised a lot, but that's about it. Some people seem to see any criticism as personal.

Very nasty comments have been made about Kellie as well.

Yes, I referred to Kellie earlier.

I can't quite see where 'Mummy's boy' and the ilk come into criticising the dancing itself, though.

I do not know very much about the Rumba but I thought the dance was beautiful.

When you have one of the worlds top choreographer stating that it was amazing and others on the threads that know there dancing... and above all Darcy who comes from a the ballet world where story telling is a big factor...then you know that it was an amazing dance.

Thank God we have moved on from the days when the men .. Ian Waite and Matt Cutler for example .. had to perform in what can only be described as a Lycra onesie!!

Yeah, of course. I think all of the contestants receive a certain amount of personal criticism though.

Comments like that are awful. But all contestants get nasty comments from a small percentage of posters. Just as a small percentage of more extreme fans descend on any negative comments no matter how benign. Both ends of the spectrum should be put on the naughty step and ignored.

So while many people enjoyed Jay's rhumba there are also some of us who didn't. And I think the majority of comments here have been reasonable.

There's a difference between an exchange of opinions (which is the lifeblood of the forum after all) along the lines of

"I loved that dance! Best of the series for me, it moved me to tears"

"I didn't enjoy it, I thought it was wafty/stiff/there were some technical errors"

and

"Now THAT'S how to do an American Trot Tango! Great dance, unlike some who can only shuffle about like they've got no feet and have to rely on crying at the judges and hope their army of blind fans save them anyhow"

I mostly see the first, as you'd expect since we're a group of adults capable of rational discussion, but there is a small but determined hard core of posters who struggle to avoid the second.

I wonder how many of the posters who are criticising the technicality of Jays rumba actually know how to do it. Yes you may not have liked it and that's fine. I didn't like Anita's AT but a lot of posters did and that's what its all about.

I would rather listen to people who know what they are talking about who have said his rumba was wonderful i.e. professional dancers.

Think that if you want, it was still the best dance of the night by some distance.
