He is a good dancer; that I clearly can see. What I don't understand is how his personality appeals to anyone?

How and emotionally stunted, withdrawn and such a blah person is somehow seen with some sympathy is beyond me. His characteristics and style are boring.

He's not a withdraw kid plucked from anonymity - after all - he was in a boy band. So attention seeking and showing off, a performer, is what he does. But on this show, he seems dull.

I don't understand his appeal - can someone please explain?

He is opaque enough for people to project their own personalities/desires onto. That's the only explanation I have.

No. I could try but what's the point when you're mind is made up and you're just going to go - "I don't see it," anyway?

Maybe he's a slow developer, and by 45 will be the next Billy Connolly. "Fek yew, mon!"

You don't want an explanation. You just wanted to start a thread in which you could explain why you don't like him. Enjoy the echo chamber

The world is full of different personalities. Some appeal to some and not to others. Why does anyone need to explain why they find someone's personality appealing, it won't change your mind about what you feel about him.

Gosh, if there was one thing this board was lacking, it was a thread about Jay's personality

Because it gets terribly boring when every contestant is efferverscent and loud. It's nice to have a quiet one.

What's the point? You have your mind made up on him. Something tells me anyone trying to explain why they like him won't change that.

And a kind one, the only one to mention how sad it was for the people in the dance off. The others were just too busy being self obsessed and simpering for their fans at home.

I think fans seems to see this shy, polite young man ( which I'm sure he is). However he was in a very popular boy band who at one point had their own tv show in the USA. I am sure he is not a shy and retiring little flower. His personality has not come across at all, I can't actually work him out. He is a good dancer but would love to see a bit of an edge to him.

You have already made your mind up on him op, and thats fine. We cant all like the same people, we cant all understand everyones personality, we cant all really explain why we are drawn to others. And thats fine.

Differnt stokes and all that jazz...

Edit- He actually comes across very humble and refined, and is a good dancer, so thats why I am a fan.

I'm voting for his dancing, not his personality, but have to say I like his personality.

He seems affable, self deprecating, funny and extremely kind.

My likes or dislikes aren't the issue, and I don't need to be convinced on anything. The question is what do you see? Cause I see nothing, yet some must. I am curious to know what you see.

So far, not one reply has offered any explanation,

We don't have to.

Plenty of showbiz people are introverts - quite a few very famous comedians, for example. They do their job (which they practice and prepare for, it's not all off the cuff!) and then revert to their introverted personality in their private life. I hate the limelight in my personal life but love being in theatre and on stage when I'm acting (amateur stuff). People are paradoxes.

Jay may have been good at music and good looking so he did well in a boyband. You don't have to be an attention seeking, loud mouthed self-promoter if you're part of a group and it's all scripted and planned for you.

His appeal is that he is humble, funny, sweet, down to earth, self deprecating guy who happens to be a fantastic dancer.

Usually avoid these, but will have a go.

Jay is my favourite - love to watch him dance - but I really liked Jeremy and I like Anita and Georgia too.

Have very vaguely known about him for a few years in local paper.

Jay gave his Olympic Torch to the Children's Bereavement Charity to fund raise. He's been patron of that charity for several years. When he had his hair cut he gave it to the Little Princess Trust - to make wigs for children who have lost hair through cancer treatment.

He was adopted as 'thread pet' by the NAT thread before he danced a step because of his ethical, funny tweets - correct spelling and grammar too.

Jay doesn't make a fuss - Zoe said weeks ago to the Friday panel that he doesn't like the bandage on his knee mentioned. We only found out about an injury from the choreographers and it was not mentioned otherwise. Has said nothing at all about coping the FT weekend when his grandad was so ill. He respects his family's privacy.

Is nice to fans - Heidi from the Guardian blog said Jay was lovely to her teenage daughter. Someone has posted in the Appreciation Thread that she went to the show last night and Jay was lovely to her.

He has a dry sense of humour and is very polite.

Last but not least, he loves his family and appreciates what they have done for him.

Okay, I'll bite. I'm not a member of the Jaypet army (Helen was my favourite) but I see a drily funny, self-deprecating, intelligent young man who seems like he would be good fun to go for a pint with.

Before Saturday he said about his dance "I'm going to be playing a slightly scruffy averagely talented musician...I'll be digging deep". How can you not appreciate a sense of humour like that?

He's such a pleasant ordinary lad, not showbizzy or show- offy, but shy, humble and self deprecating. He's just like the lad next door, or your student son/grandson, which is what people like about him and relate to. And the politeness counts for a lot in many people - he's always saying thank you ! From week one, he's come on in leaps and bounds with Aliona's superb choreography and proper teaching methods, and has become a wonderful dancer. I've really enjoyed watching him change over the weeks, and although I didn't even know of him before Strictly started, he's made this years series for me.

There's no need for an extra thread to find out what people see in Jay's personality. There's hundreds of posts on the forum about it if you really are interested.

There's an appreciation thread in the attic. In there you will find thousands of posts explaining what people like/love about Jay. I suggest you try there.

I'm not interested in Jay or his free school milk.

It's funny - Jay gets castigated for his "bland" personality while Kellie gets slaughtered for her "loud" personality. What is the perfect, appealing personality?
