According to this article

middle age starts at 60. So all three women are mere spring chickens

You can pack 'em in tighter with terraces. Or a block of flats.
Glad to be of help.

Considering people live to their 80s, can 30s be considered middle aged nowadays?

I think this is a nasty thread. Especially as neither Kellie or Anita are middle aged.

How can 60 be the start of middle age - people don't generally live to 120. The average life expectancy for a woman is about 83 so 40ish is not far off middle age really.

Oh dear it was meant in a kind way, to celebrate the lack of ageism among Strictly voters. I am in a similar age bracket (ish) and I consider myself middle-aged, so it's hardly an insult.

But it doesn't mean the middle point of your life. Same as several can mean four.

A little young, but things don't get much better than that for me.

Lol, don't worry. I agree with you that it is nice to see some 30 and 40 somethings in the semis.

All women are different of course but personally I think middle age starts about the time that MOST women go through menopause so not until 50 at the earliest. Middle age doesn't necessarily mean the 'middle of your life' in terms of life span.

A woman on 40 is not middle aged.

I'd say:

0-19 childhood/adolescence
20-39 young adulthood
40-59 middle age
60+ senior citizenship

So 30s is not middle-aged for my £$€

I don't think the term is supposed to be taken so literally as some think it is.

I'm in my thirties (and so definitely NOT middle-aged ) and my parents are in their sixties - I definitely wouldn't describe them as "elderly"! Not least because I'd probably get a slap if I suggested it... Perhaps a hundred or more years ago when life spans were shorter and people aged quicker, sixties might have been "elderly", but today it just sounds odd to describe a sixty-something that way.

I'd describe Carole as middle-aged, definitely not Anita and Kellie though.

(OP, if you'd just said it's nice to see several women in their thirties and forties in the semis instead of a bunch of twenty-somethings, you'd probably have had nothing but agreement )

I get where you're coming and agree that in a world that seems to worship glossy, disco dollies above all else, it does make a refreshing change to see actual grown up women taking centre stage.

This is going to play havoc with me trying to get out of stuff because I'm too old.
Grrr.
And imagine if Anton won, how olds he?

A 40 year old woman could be a grandmother. I bet that would make her feel middle aged.
