Have to say that the line up so far looks f*****g awesome

Friday 10 June:

Rammstein, Korn, Motorhead, The Amity Affliction, Counting Days, Gutterdämmerung, Havok, Killswitch Engage, Skillet, Twin Atlantic, Fort Hope.

Saturday 11 June:

Black Sabbath, Deftones, Megadeth, Architects, Atreyu, Beartooth, Black Foxxes, Dead!, Down, Milk Teeth, Neck Deep, Rival Sons, Skindred, TesseracT, Lawnmower Deth.

Sunday 12 June:

Iron Maiden, Nightwish, Disturbed, Attila, Billy Talent, Breaking Benjamin, Delain, Don Broco, Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, Ghost, Gojira, Halestorm, Ho99o9, Saxon, Shinedown, Tremonti.

Think that Sunday is my favourite

I bought my weekend ticket off the headliners alone but so far I feel like this line up just isn't for me. The metal bands we had before tonight are dull

Megadeth are terrible live, Nightwish aren't big enough for their slot and their music is just overly plodding, Motorhead are a dead band walking nowadays and Korn and Disturbed do these fests so often the fact they're showing up is no surprise at all.

From the bands announced tonight there's Halestorm, Skindred, Shinedown, Rival Sons, Billy Talent and Saxon for me and it was leaked that Shinedown are headlining Second Stage on Sunday which - as a big fan - is frankly ridiculous for Download Festival and Shinedown's current status in the UK industry.

Not saying I hate the festival line up at all, in fact I am still looking forward to it very much and I'm sure I'll have a good time regardless, but when looking back at past line ups its hard not to see where this line up is so clearly lacking. All the money was clearly put into the 3 (admittedly perfect) headliners and left out for the rest so what we're left with is a thoroughly underwhelming undercard that are higher up on the bill than they should be (so far this applies especially to: Korn, Motorhead, Nightwish and Shinedown)

Just got worse for me, Saxon are headlining 3rd stage on Sunday, meaning BOTH Saxon and Shinedown clash with Maiden, so both of those are now off my "to watch" list. Why they'd put Saxon up against Maiden is mind boggling to me

I also brought my tickets on the strength of the headliners and to me this is a perfect example of how musical taste is purely subjective. For me the event has got a whole lot better!

I am biased as I love them, but Nightwish will easily cope with their slot; after all they played a headline slot at Wacken Open Air in 2013 in front of 90,000 and they have sold out Wembley Arena in a week or so's time, a gig I'm really looking forward to.

Symphonic Metal has been huge in mainland Europe for a while now and it is growing in popularity in the UK. In the last month alone I've seen Delain, Leave's Eyes, and Epica, play in Bristol. The Delain and Epica gigs were both sold out and there was a very good attendance for Leave's Eyes as well. The inclusion of both Nightwish and Delain at Download 2016 is a testament to the rise in the genre's popularity.

For me Sunday is currently looking to be the strongest day with Friday as the weakest but with many more bands yet to be announced is is becoming a very, very, good festival for me.

.
I'm not going, but all 3 headliners sound great. As for Nightwish at Wembley, I was at a reading of Richard Dawkins' latest book a few months ago, and I asked him about his collaboration with the band. He said that he was hoping to appear at the Wembley show to read his section of 'The greatest show on earth' live. That will be worth seeing!

Nightwish have also said they would really like it to happen, so fingers crossed!!

I forgot to say earlier, it really wouldn't surprise me to see BABYMETAL added to the Download line-up as well!

I don't agree that Korn and Disturbed play a lot. In the last few years I haven't seen Disturbed in any line up for a major festival in the UK. I want to see them so would have noticed! The headliners have all played Download in the past few years though, so when they were announced I was a bit 'meh' as I've seen them all recently! Megadeth are very boring live - I saw them at Sonisphere, got bored, saw them at Bloodstock, got bored.

I do like Download's line ups, but as a festival I find it too annoying. I'm starting to prefer the slightly smaller festivals instead! Can't be dealing with an hour walk from tent to car and tent to the village and then the main stage areas.

If I had enough money I'd go and probably do RIP, but next year I'm going to go Bloodstock instead!

It happened and finished off a brilliant gig.

Based on the Wembley show Nightwish will have no problem at Download. A future headliner perhaps?

Fantastic - I wish I could have been there. I shall be keeping a careful eye on Dimeadozen etc to see if it shows up there.

The gig was recorded so there will be an official DVD at some point.

Undoubtedly. That show in Wembley was such a high quality mix of flawless music, flawless and exciting stage show and great crowd interaction that I could definitely see them being a headliner once their next album comes out.
