Have you noticed that lately there are more chocolates on the market with various fillings, rather than good old plain milk or dark chocolates? It's really annoying when you buy a chocolate that actually contains less chocolate and mostly it's a feeling that is usually too sweet and fatty which actually prevents you from tasting the chocolate itself. Even Lindt brands have more filled chocolates nowadays.

But you can buy just as much "plain" milk and dark as before. The filled chocolate is in addition. If you don't like filled chocolate I would suggest you don't buy it rather that buy it and then not enjoy it.

Yes, you can buy it and I do buy it, but that wasn't my point. Good plain milk or dark chocolates seem to be hidden, whereas filled chocolates are placed on top shelves in supermarkets. The point of the post was to highlight how chocolate makers are now using filled chocolates as a trick to lower the percentage of real cocoa in the product. First they were making chocolates smaller in size for the same price, and now they are pushing filled chocolates. In the future, I think we will only have artificially flavoured cocoa "chocolates" as there won't be enough cocoa to make real chocolates.

It's down to the price of chocoa being quite high. Brands bring out "new" bars with various non chocolate filling to keep costs down but still ram up interest

The price of cocoa is high as is the price of chocolates. They are increasing the prices or make smaller packages for the same price. Fairtrade certificate is another misleading thing when it comes to cocoa, coffee or exotic fruits.

Surely the manufacturing costs of filling bars with quirky new fillings is equally - or even more - costly than just a solid bar of chocolate. To be honest the true cocoa content of most run-of-the-mill chocolates is diluted by sugar, vegetable oils and emulsifiers that it's hard to know if you've bought a decent product or just a sickly lump of processed grease.
