Vodafone unlock nightmare. Suggestions?

Hi all
the mrs had an iphone 4 on vodaphone contract (2 years) when the iphone 4 first came out.
Contract ended and she went to another company and got a new number.
Fast forward 4 or 5 years to today and we've decided to use the phone for one of our kids and want to put in a payg sim from Three.
Problem is the iphone is locked to vodaphone, we don't know the phone number or the old account number and vodaphone can find no trace of us on their system now.
This means they won't even let me pay them to get the phone unlocked so my only option currently is to shell out 40 quid from some company on the web.
Anyone have any ideas to get vodaphone to help us?
thanks in advance

I don't think you need the phone number to get the phone unlocked. And you don't have to use Vodafone. Google 'unlock phone' and you'll come across many services. All they need is the IMEI code and they will tell you how to find it. I have previously used https://www.fastgsm.com/en and they even gave me money back after I did (at their suggestion) a short promotional video on You Tube, here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5W_d5Yx9Zg

The fact you can't spell Vodafone probably makes searching difficult.

Here's a direct link to a reputable unlocker who can process the unlock for you:

The man in the street could be forgiven for thinking the company can't spell their their name either! The f is Saatchi & Saatchi's doing.

That doesn't change the fact the searching for a "vodaphone" unlock is unlikely to get many hits.

I would add, the man in the street can see the word "Vodafone" on every high street, in most newspapers and on TV on a fairly regular basis.

It has also been called Vodafone since the early 1980's so hardly a new name to blame a PR firm for.

Also solved the issues around being able to trademark which were probably more tricky in the 80s than now.
