It's a shame that both Georgia and Helen suffered the most from the extra dancers and I'm sure the distraction of them might have contributed to them being in the DO.

I wonder why Jay and Aliona's dance was the only one which didn't have extra dancers?

I think only Kellie, Katie and Anita's dances worked to an extent with having extra dancers in them, and that's only because Kellie's felt more like a group dance and required rowdy-ness and with Katie and Anita the extra dancers didn't impede anyone's view of the dancing and mostly stayed in the background.
*Imagines Aliona's look at the producer who dared to utter 'backing dancers' to a Rumba*

Nah I think I know why their dance didn't have backing dancers...

Yes and boy did they dance!! The routines seemed longer, although they weren't. They physically couldn't breathe they were so exhausted at the end of routines. And Dave Arch actually arranged the music.

I don't know whether to thank you or give you a slap round the chops for depressing me even more about the current state of Strictly.

Ah - Denise & Ian. Weren't they just fabulous?

I think Aliona would have had them all trapped inside the piano ahead of taking a step on the dance floor.

Oh wow! That brought back memories. Just glorious.

But I think those clips are broken. There are no tables, lampposts, mirrors, chairs, etc. And the music suits the dances. And we can see the dancers at all times. No fecking teapots between them and the camera.

That can't be right can it?

I'm not a big fan of backing dancers but that musicals night was good entertainment. Strictly is firstly and foremost an entertainment show.

Helen's Les Mis number was overcrowded, etc, but if it had worked it would have been fantastic, better than Caroline Flack's charleston (which also had interfering dancers).

SCD as we used to know it is slowly being destroyed year upon year . The songs now are all that matters to the producers, even though most of them are completely wrong for the particular dance .
They're hiring more and more pros who aren't trained in ballroom .
We're seeing more and more time wasting, props, backing dancers . The clapping and screaming has got worse as well as all those horrible strobe lights everywhere .

I can no longer bear to watch it live but now only watch each dance on iplayer .

Me too! I always record the show and scud through to the dances themselves (and the judges comments). I don't even bother to see the training room preambles, they're sometimes relevant but nearly always pointless. An hour's viewing last Saturday only took about 20 minutes to go through and I really don't mind if I never get that time back again!

I love all the theatrics.
The drunken table setting VW took a lot out of Kellie, and Kevin can't be expected to risk his back lifting her onto such a high table. Health and Safety requirements mean that people nowadays have to be protected from over-lifting.
