If TS wins Album over Kendrick I will cry she is already over nominated in my eyes. So glad Ellie Goulding has been recognised, as well as Florence hope she gets a win. The new artist is so so this year. And here is hoping Bjork finally wins her overdue grammy for possibly her best work in decades.

I think this has to be one of the weakest set of nominees ever. TS is forever over nominated, much like her best mate, Beyonce. She could record a song farting and the grammys will nominate her for song of the year.
Lovely to see Florence and Ellie nominated though. Lady Gaga was ineligible to be nominated for Best New Artist because she had previously been nominated for a grammy for Just Dance. But Meghan Trainor has been nominated for Best New Artist, but yet was nominated last year for All About That Bass. So i guess rules have changed? I also think it is laughable that James Bay is being recognised as rock. His music has some rock elements but to be nominated for Best rock album album and best rock song, Oh Please. He is no more of a rock star than Susan Boyle. |

Most definitely 1989 is an 80's synth influenced album with so lyrics which has been done much better, but it's TS she could vomit down a microphone and it be heralded.
Agreed really nice and deserved too. It was like when Florence lost to Esperanza Spalding who had five albums previous to her win. Same with Whitney Houston and more recently Ed Sheeran. Think the academy pick and choose their own rules. And yes like Florence being recognised as both rock an pop. Of course she is but I also think the pop vocal album nom was a consolation for not getting a AOTY nod. |

Biggest surprise for me was seeing Courtney Barnett nominated, I really hope she does win for best new artist. I would put her streets ahead of the other nominees from what I know of them. Also great to see so many nominees for Chris Stapleton, as well as Kacey Musgraves and Ashley Monroe getting recognised for Best Country Album. For Song of the Year, I'd like to see either Alright or Girl Crush win, even though they're completely different songs! Not too bothered about Record of the Year, I still haven't listened to The Weeknd or D'Angelo yet, so I'd probably go for Uptown Funk. The other two are alright too. Quote:

Edit: It's also great to see Florence + The Machine, Wolf Alice, Lianne La Havas, Leon Bridges, Tame Impala and many others all nominated. Also happy to see Amy nominated for Best Film. |

Madonna got completely shut out again. I read that she submitted herself for Album, Song and Record of the Year, but I think that was just wishful thinking on her part. I'm surprised that she couldn't even manage one nomination in the lesser dance categories. Then again, the last time the Grammy's nominated her was in 2010, so I think they're over her at this point. At this rate, she'll score fewer nominations this decade than she did in the 1980s, lol.
Congratulations to Florence + the Machine and Bjork. I don't rate Taylor Swift, but she's showing a few has-beens a thing or two. |

Pleasantly surprised to see Kelly Clarkson nominated as I didn't think they acknowledge her this year.
For Best Pop Vocal Album, she's the only artist to win it more than once and holds the record for most nominations with four. Doubt she'll win it again, but really happy she's been acknowledged. |

It's a shame Lana never got nominated. I thought Honeymoon was worthy of at least best pop vocal album.
and as for Madonna, her relationship with the grammys has always been up and down. But she does have about 5 on a mantlepiece somewhere, so i can't be too bitter as a fan. |

James Bay and Death Cab down as 'rock' yet My Morning Jacket are down as 'alternative'.

It's not that I don't like TS, I'm just a really big fan of Alabama Shakes, Kendrick Lamar and Chris Stapleton so it's a pleasant surprise to see them all nominated. Edit: It's also great to see Florence + The Machine, Wolf Alice, Lianne La Havas, Leon Bridges, Tame Impala and many others all nominated. Also happy to see Amy nominated for Best Film. |

The Weekend is very good, BBTM is a little more commercial than his previous releases but is also his most consistent. He is like if MJ and Prince had a child the musicality of Michael with Prince's sexuality
.Talking of which would have been a good nom if prisoner his duet with Lana on the album had gotten a nod. A great song and would've given Lana a much deserved nomination but for some reason the academy does not like her. |

The Weeknd is one of my favorites. He opened for Florence a few years ago, Great show.
So mush charisma. If you can get past the many f* bombs on Wicked Games, it is a freaking sexy song. Baby making music. ![]() Love that he made a more commercial turn so that more people can hear that voice. It's sublime. The rock category this year is a farce. Guess this is what happens when Foo's don't release a new album. Lol. Edit: About Taylor Swift. If she wins I do hope Kanye is in the front row again. I actually hope the success of 25 will take the sales out of the equation for these Grammys and that Kendrick takes AOTY. |

Yeah the categories seem a little off kilter like Is Florence pop or rock. of course she can be both but still it feels a little haphazard.
Funnily enough as you mentioned the anomaly that is Taylor Swift, She was nominated heavily in 2013 in almost the same categories losing out in all. That said Red din't have the impact 1989 has had, and it remains to be seen whether the Grammy's this year will award talent over the commercial. They did lat year with Beck so we shall see. |
