A very very sad day for rock fans and drummers alike as one of the greatest in the business has decided to hang up his sticks after 40 years. Not sure how Rush can continue after this although Dream Theater have managed to continue after Mike Portnoy left.

Sad news. Let's hope it only means he's retiring from touring.
He's not keen on being away from his new family for long tours.
Perhaps another drummer could take his place on the road.

Retiring full stop by the sounds of it due mainly to health. He has suffered wrist and arm problems for many years.

That's not good news indeed.

On the one hand I really hope this isn't the end of Rush purely for selfish reasons as I have never seen them, and the reception for their live shows is always high. However, if its due to severe health problems then its understandable and I wish him a happy retirement

Sad day for all lRush fans.

I feel although its possible of course but unlikely they will tour without him as he was integral to the Rush sound.

I think in the past they have said they would like to tour again buts it was all down to Neil Peart as to wether he wanted to,i guess this answers that question.

He does not like being away from home for extended periods and has been said his health is not so good regarding strains on his wrists after many years of drumming.

He gets bad tendonitis. I would say it is the end of the band, they went out on a high though with the R40 tour.

Neil is not the only one with health problems though. Guitarist Alex Lifeson has Athritis in his fingers. Which for a guitar player is a bit of a problem.

Still the Preists of Syrinx gave us 40 years of great music.

Great drummer, possibly the best ever. Shame.

According to Geddy, Neil's comments have been misinterpreted...

Rush aren't dead! Neil Peart hasn't retired!

Seen them half a dozen or so times over the years and whatever happens I will always have the memories of those shows. Whilst you can argue that "no-one is irreplacable" I really can't picture them doing a live show with any other drummer.

From what they have said in the past both Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee agree.
