I've said a few times on here before that I'm all for a partner switch week but I don't think same sex partners would work. Maybe as a CIN/Comic Relief special thouh
Yes, two men or two women should only dance when we can laugh at them.

I'd be for it if it was a random draw as to who dances with who aka 2 hats and job done. Reminds me of the multi page argument when that guy from the egg heads wanted in but only if he got a same sex pro.

As an aside to this point I offer the following observation re equality.

Some years ago I gave some help to a gay friend who wanted to set up same sex dance classes and salsa socials for same sex couples. She asked me to help promote it and I did. The feed back I got from most gay men I am acquainted with was Why? To a man they were all perfectly happy to dance with women when out dancing and many were quite adament that when it came to partner dancing they woudl prefer to dance with a woman rather than another gay man.

It is not uncommon to see women dance with women in social dance setting in any case. In salsa I often dance with women and most of the women who lead, lead better than many of the men I dance with. Less flashy but much more assured and unambiguous in their leading. Men dancing with men is rare but not unheard of.

Anyway my friend's same sex dance venture bombed. There was simply no interest or demand despite widespread and vigorous promotion within the sizable LGBT and salsa communities in tis city.

I think it's worth trying perhaps as a showdance, but not (yet) as part of the main competition

I'm not ideologically opposed to the idea on any sort of "disgusted of Tunbridge Wells" principle but it would just be a gimmick, and there are too many gimmicks already. I know Strictly is drifting ever further from its moorings of ballroom dancing, but that is still supposed to be its basis and there isn't a tradition of same-sex ballroom competitions.

Definitely not. I'm all for equality but ballroom dancing is about a man and a woman dancing together. Regardless of their sexual orientation.
Not in the non-strictly world. There have been same sex competitions for years.

At the rate of progress, it won't be long before we have a same-sex relationship within the Strictly troupe. You all know who I mean.

Edited to add;

Usually women, actually. I'm a bit fascinated by their second-hand matching frocks on eBay.

I don't want to see any kind of partner swap week, I like to watch the partnerships grow throughout the series. I'd be fine with a same sex pairing throughout a season, but there would be no value in it unless the celeb was actually choosing the non-traditional dance role i.e.. no value in the pro dancers doing the opposite to their usual role.

The pros will all be able to dance the opposite role to some degree anyway, it's super useful as a teaching tool.

I'd like to see an "Audience Excuse me" members of the audience can randomly approach a dancing couple and dance with the either the celeb or the Pro. The "excused" must then spend the remainder of the dance in audience and the judges mark as though it were the original couple dancing.

Nice. I could see Aljaz and Jay doing it on that level.

No, no way. I think some people would feel uncomfortable dance with someone of the sane gender. But I'd like to see a partner mix up week like on DWTS. That would be interesting

How about same sex group dance.
This!

and this is the campest show on television, I can't see why so many would be opposed to it?

They shouldn't be doing partner-swap full stop, the same-sex thing is a side issue

That was bizarrely brilliant - it was almost a comedy routine, with a share of the more feminine elements between the two. Lots of gapping tho!

I'm sure it could work. There doesn't have to be any sexual connotations.

Start off by firing them out of a cannon, then a bit of bull riding and finish with some side by side table moving and finish on an island with some budgie smugglers.
