I am currently looking for a new 32 inch tv for my bedroom to replace my old Phillips which has now bit the dust, i have my eye on http://www.johnlewis.com/sony-bravia...wi-fi/p1919520 and http://www.johnlewis.com/lg-32lf650v...asses/p1973301

does anyone on here have either of these TV's, i am leaning towards the LG as i like the 3D feature and it is also currently in stock, but then i have always heard that sony is the best brand out there and it is also cheaper in price but without the 3D.

Go for the LG. Sony are over rated.

Completely untrue, as always Sony and Panasonic are the best two brands, and LG/Samsung the middling two.

Make no decision without seeing the picture on both sets with comparable input signals. If 3D is something you are likely to seldom use, and the Sony pq is better, then I would say go for the Sony. If 3D is important for films or gaming and you feel you'll regret not having it, plump for the LG.

The laughable thing is that I would say that LG & Samsung are over rated!
In all fairness I think the value for money on Sony, Samsung, LG & Panasonic is actually very similar. LG & Samsung tend to be a bit less, but they seem to be less reliable and they don't seem to perform as well in my opinion either.

I'm looking at new TVs at the moment and there are (relatively cheap) Sony and Panasonic UHDTVs getting better reviews than more expensive Samsungs.

That is your opinion which you regularly state.
But.
Sony are over rated and seem to have a non intuitive operating system.
Panasonic are hobbled to only work in one country of the EU rather than the whole of it. They also seem to have problems coping with FEC changes on transponders necessitating a complete re install when this happens.

Samsung had problems with dud capacitors, maybe fixed now.

Speaking as a potential buyer, with no brand-loyalty axe to grind, it seems to me Samsung and LG TVs always have some critical shortfall that rules out a purchase.

LGs seem to have issues with input lag, so as a gamer I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. Samsungs seem to have issues with smooth movement unless you're looking and their very high end models, so again I wouldn't be interested.

Even the more modest Sony and Panasonc models (barring the cheap Vestel rebadges) are good all rounders in terms of picture quality and performance. Something that I hold in much higher regard than the (non)issues you have raised.

Not had any issues with signal changes on Panasonic's & we sell a lot of the. When signals change, as a default the TV has a pop-up message that allows the viewer to simply click ok and let the TV retune. This is not a full re-install it is a retuning which as far as I'm aware the vast majority of other sets need to do to.

It is also your opinion that Sony are over rated just as much as it it other that they are not.
As for Samsung reliability, we still repair a hell of a lot of them, vastly more than we do Panasonic/Sony.

That's pretty general across the service trade.

Got a decent source for that assertion (I'm not including you obviously)?

I'm looking forward to Sony and Panasonic's OLED offerings (I know they'll have LG panels but there's more to a TV than the panel I think)

Yeah, it's what we hear all the time. Having said that they do sell a lot more too so that will account for some of the discrepancy.

But I'll bet your selling twice as many Samsung as Panasonic and Sony combined.

Pretty much any sales figures in the public domain now have Samsung as the number 1 seller - I suspect in reality Vestel actual shift the most units overall when you consider how many different sets go out under different badges from them though.

As far as I'm aware Vestel have been the biggest seller in Europe for a good many years now,but aren't listed in public figures though.

I've had a couple of Samsungs, a couple of Panasonics and am now on my 1st Sony.
For PQ alone, the Sony wins hands down.

Why do I keep reading this on here?
Care to tell me why (apart from maybe the Irish border) this is so important? Never once have I taken my TV on a foreign (or domestic) holiday with me.

No, we sell 95% Panasonic TVs. The odd Linsar, Samsung, Sony, Hisense goes out too but we're know as a Panasonic seller& do the repairs for Panasonic too giving us the ability to look after people before & after they buy from us.

You're perhaps the man in the know - have you any experience of Panasonic's own refurbs? You can get a good deal on their 2015 models via their outlet store if you're willing to take a punt. Are they worth it?

We've haven't taken any of the refurbs in for many years. Think from memory they were 28" tube TVs but they were all in good condition and we didn't get any above average faults with them.

Not a TV, and I don't work in the trade, but I have bought a refurb from the Panasonic eBay store - a sound base. You wouldn't have known it wasn't new, came with all accessories bagged and had no sign of previous use. Delivered quickly by DPD. I'd have no concerns about buying from them again.
