We're both showing our age by talking about Play School and the different-shaped windows aren't we?

There was an arched window and a round window. Which you could only look through once you'd told the correct time.

Day of broadcast reminder, 7.00pm/7.25pm tonight.

I adore this story. Back in 2003, I snapped around a dozen photographs of the actual cliff face model and something that terrified me back in the day, one of the flesh-eating Horda creatures from this story, brought along when Matt Irvine and Mike Tucker did a special effects and model talk in a hotel room that barely fitted 20 seated people in, away from the main panel talks and goings-on during the Doctor Who @ 40 convention. One whole side of the room had table-to-table crammed with classic DW models, together with a few B7 models and others from Moonbase 3, Tripods too. I used a whole roll of film just on that spread of tables. It was one of the best things that went on during the extremely disorganized convention. As a keen modeller myself, I found it very informative.

I wish they aired Classic Who like this more often, the little brother's really enjoying it and it'd be a lot easier than the DVDs.

Horror of fang rock is on horror channel at 8. Much better. Well part 3 and 4.

Well that was interesting. Never seen Face of Evil before and Louise looks so young. Its pretty good on characterization which makes up for being all studio bound.

Does anyone know when the rest of the story airs?

Watched EPS 1 AND 2 last night and will watch 3 and 4 tonight. I'd forgotten how good the story is! I'd also forgotten the Doctor talking to himself at the beginning: it's so funny that it makes up for it being obvious exposition caused by lack of companion. The crunched clock is very well done and the jungle/film sequences are very effective. The Horda gave me the shudders, too. Great sound effects for the pit full of the wriggling little buggers. Ugh.

Even though I have it on DVD (and VHS, and in paperback), it was a nice treat to watch a broadcast version of it. I know there are regular repeats on the Horror Channel, but that always passes me by (except for once when I visited my brother and he was watching Brian Morbius). BBC is always best.

I'd completely forgotten that Leela's father gets killed in the first 5 minutes and then isn't even mentioned again. That's the way it should be done, none of this emotional nonsense cluttering up the story

Haven't seen this for donkeys years. Very solid story, and the cliffhanger to Part 1 is memorable (part 2.....not so much!) I'd say Peter C makes the 'Doctor talking to himself' bits more convincing than Tom, who's a bit 'broad' at the start, but things settle down nicely once Leela meets up with him. Decent script and generally good performances, and the filmed jungle set still holds up very nicely. (Planet of Evil's is even better. Quite superb, in fact.)

Nice stuff so looking forward to the second half. Interesting concept to have the Doctor having such a dramatic effect on a planet by accident, and the imagery of him climbing over 'his' impressive choppers was cool...I seem to recall the second half is a bit more 'running around corridors a lot' and not *quite' as strong, but will see later...

Which statistically is more real. Grieving comes hours later, or at the end of the day, or days after, even sometimes just at the funeral. More often than not on a day of a death, you're too busy doing things.
Leela wept and grieved once on-board the TARDIS.

The story is interesting, but... um... why do the laser guns have balls.... Did the production designers go you know what guns don't resemble the male member quite enough, so lets add two glowing balls onto the gun.. yeah that should work.

Jut to add, David Garfield really sells his role, even when acting with a cricket glove on his head. Just checked imdb and nice to see he did a Big Finish a while back. Had no idea I'd seen him in the first episode of The Prisoner; he only had one line, I think. ("Paul Eddington's jumped out of the window!" or something) Still

Sometimes you have to try and ignore similarities with the male anatomy in Classic Who. A certain and rather unsettling scene in The Creature from the Pit comes to mind.

Good to see BBC Four showing some classic Dr Who and what a change watching it on television without those damn bloody ad breaks though to be fair to horror channel at least they are showing the classic series even though they seem to be on endless repeats.

It would be great if BBC Four could start showing the entire run of classic Dr Who as well as Blake's 7. The latter hasn't been repeated for over 15 years when BBC Two showed the first season of Blake's 7 in 2000.

True. But in his defence, these were essentially the Doc's teenage years. Goes with the territory.
