I only caught the one episode as it was broadcast live, the rest watching them on iPlayer. It was the standard BBC Four transmission that was stretched as I watched live, the HD version was broadcast in its original 4:3 ratio when I flicked over to that channel.
I no longer have a Skybox nor do I have a separate freeview receiver, I watched it via my in-built receiver within my Smart TV and I don't have the setting set to auto upscaling of standard definition. I just thought it was odd that each channel broadcast the one that I watched live in different ratios. Much less likely, as it's the BBC and they got it right in the HD broadcast, they set the 16:9 flag incorrectly in the SD broadcast. |

268K would have been nice. But it's no surprise given both BBC3 repeats being axed, the failed attempt at a Sunday omnibus and unimpressive ratings for the last series.
As I say, I wonder if it was an experiment to find a substitute for having no Doctor Who this year. I'm not expecting any further classic episodes any time soon, any more than omnibuses or cinema screenings of series 10 episodes. And just because it's been on DVD for years doesn't mean the other 99.9% of the population who don't buy Doctor Who DVDs wouldn't watch it for free on TV. BBC4 found out - They didn't! |

It was shown as part of BBC4's "children's TV" strand, and they wanted a story that was shown at or around Christmas in the 70s . I don't think an ongoing series of repeats is likely, given that The Horror Channel is already doing it. That said, BBC4 and Gold are currently showing the same episodes of Ronnie Corbett's sitcom "Sorry", so who can say what goes on in the minds of TV schedulers?!

Having recorded this at Christmas, I finally got round to watching this.
Some decent ideas, and I thought Louise made a great debut performance, but the story was a bit slow (and I mean when compared to the best Classic serials), I did find myself drifting away during parts 1 and 2, especially when the Doctor and Leela weren't on screen. |
