Many threads within the SCD category imply that Jay will win this year's competition .. hands down, no argument, it's a done deal, etc., etc.

I have a hunch that the SCD viewing demographic is becoming younger as each year the programme becomes more pizzazzy - becoming similarly as lary as The X-Factor, The Voice, Britain's Got Talent, etc. This has possibly led to an increasingly higher ratio of younger people taking the trouble to vote for their favourite dancer.

So what? Well, before the current series began I would hazard a guess that very few people over the age of 20 had ever heard of Jay McGuiness, let alone his band The Wanted. So here's the thing .. he's a singer (I think) in a boy band, very much the province of teenagers and consequently anything he does will attract the attention of his young (predominantly female) music fans, in the way that sixties Beatlemania took a hold of teenage girls at the time.

Since it has been suggested elsewhere on this forum that more women than men cast votes on SCD, and just supposing those who do vote are in the main young women/teenage girls, then perhaps we shouldn't be so surprised that Jay has remained unchallenged in the competition thus far.

Having propounded that theory, I'm quite prepared to be shot down in flames, but not before I say in my defence that I think Jay is an excellent dancer and probably will be in the final. I just get a little weary reading how he's such a dead cert for the trophy!

The main demo for the show may be female but it's certainly not young. (Neither is X Factor's by-the-by)

I'm over 40, knew who The Wanted were (though not the group members specifically) before SCD & think Jay is great - guess I don't fit into the demographic proposed by you!!

In America, the average age of viewers of DWTS has been steadily rising and is in the mid 60's at this point. The viewership has also been declining in numbers, which doesn't appear to be true for Strictly but I imagine their viewers haven't been skewing younger as the show ages.

Who's this Jay? Don't get many threads dedicated to him.

I'm 45, the only thing I knew about The Wanted was that they'd appeared on Strictly before and that Max George had a guest role on Glee during that show's final season so here's another one not fitting into your supposed demographic.
I've also watched SCD since it started, don't fancy Jay in the slightest, don't wish to mother him either. I just love watching him dance.

I think if Anton's partner were just a smidge better and more importantly, seemed to be getting propped by the judges, that Katie and ANTON could take Jay in the final. It may still be possible - I'll be watching to see if they start presenting Jay more negatively in the VTs and giving him negative comments. It's interesting that what are likely to be Katie's best dances have been held to the end.

I know Robin said the pros get to choose the dance - but that wasn't the case for Tristan. He suggested a paso that he particularly wanted to do with Jamelia, and he'd worked on it, but the producers said no. So it isn't always true that it's solely the pro's choice - which suggests the producers were happy for Katie to have her best dances at the end, as well as Anton obviously wanting that as well.

Jay's success is due to the combination of his superior dance ability and his charming, self-effacing personality. He's the perfect son-in-law type, with a bit of cheek and probably very appealing to the older demographic.

His having been a background member of a minor boy band is insignificant, I'd think.

And it didn't hurt that he was the only male worth a flip.

Think most of the threads, posts, replies are from non Jay fans maybe attempting to dismiss him.

I'm a Jay fan, I think he'll win but it is by no means a done deal and I can see Georgia or Anita winning too.

And it's not like he's the first young man to win a reality show, Louis Smith was younger, Harry just a bit older and that's just Strictly, never mind other celebrity shows.

My mum is 83, never heard of the Wanted nor Jay before this series but votes for him every week and wants him to win.
She thinks he's the best dancer, that's it.

You're absolutely right, people love Jay for his dancing and his attitude/personality.

But, of course it's not definite that he will win. It could be any of them. We know Anita has a strong vote and Katie was said to be leading the public vote at one time.

I'm a Georgia fan... but I think Jay will win and I won't be upset as he's a nice young fella and a great dancer.

The only person who I believe can overturn his vote in the final is Anita... if she survives the SF.

I am 78, and had never heard of The Wanted or Jay before this series.

From the very first show Jay charmed me with his modesty, humour, likeable manner and personality, and of course his wonderful dancing.

I vote for him every week, and so does everyone that I know, and I an convinced that he will lift the Glitter Ball.

I'm 109 and had never heard of him nor Wanted but vote for him multiple times every week.

Just kidding. Very impressed by the life experienced older viewers and posters.

I think Jay actually appeals far more to much older viewers because he's a throwback to a time when good manners and a reserved, respectful personality were seen as an asset.

I don't care about any of their careers, had never heard of him, am a grandma and I always vote for him. To me he is the best dancer in the competition.

Me too. I just wonder if anyone who is not taking part to the Live Tour could these days win the show? So many good ones to choose from too. (I have no idea if Jay will go on tour with Strictly in 2016).
