Funny, but I get the feeling that all the responders to my post who claim to be in the upper age end of things (and claim to love Jay and vote for him every week), are quite possibly females who either want to mother him or who would love to have him as a son-in-law!
Good luck to ALL the remaining contestants I say!! |

Im ancient. Have heard of The Wanted (quite young at heart). Knew Jay from the group so am pleased that he has turned out to be an extremely pleasant young man. The son I never had but if I had he would be my ideal.
Alot The Wanted fans are probably out drinking on a Saturday night. |

72, never heard of The Wanted or Jay and yes, he comes across as a nice, polite and well-behaved young man who any woman would love to have as a son.
But that's totally irrelevant when it comes to a dancing competition/entertainment show. He's such a very good dancer, as are others in the semi final with him. Wouldn't like to say who will win - any of them could - but I'd be happy if it was Jay ...........or Georgia or Kate or Anita or ............................................. |

Many threads within the SCD category imply that Jay will win this year's competition .. hands down, no argument, it's a done deal, etc., etc.
I have a hunch that the SCD viewing demographic is becoming younger as each year the programme becomes more pizzazzy - becoming similarly as lary as The X-Factor, The Voice, Britain's Got Talent, etc. This has possibly led to an increasingly higher ratio of younger people taking the trouble to vote for their favourite dancer. So what? Well, before the current series began I would hazard a guess that very few people over the age of 20 had ever heard of Jay McGuiness, let alone his band The Wanted. So here's the thing .. he's a singer (I think) in a boy band, very much the province of teenagers and consequently anything he does will attract the attention of his young (predominantly female) music fans, in the way that sixties Beatlemania took a hold of teenage girls at the time. Since it has been suggested elsewhere on this forum that more women than men cast votes on SCD, and just supposing those who do vote are in the main young women/teenage girls, then perhaps we shouldn't be so surprised that Jay has remained unchallenged in the competition thus far. Having propounded that theory, I'm quite prepared to be shot down in flames, but not before I say in my defence that I think Jay is an excellent dancer and probably will be in the final. I just get a little weary reading how he's such a dead cert for the trophy! |

Given the show has been around for more than 10 years now, I can see more young females (and males) watching because they grew up with Strictly. If a family watched the show on a Saturday night, then those children could easily be young adults. Jay would be a big draw to some of those viewers. Harry Judd too.
I don't see the point in declaring ages, because other factors might kick in e.g. you might be the parent of teenagers and listen - willingly or not - to current music all the time. You might listen to R1 or R2. It's so easy to vote using a smart phone now - and have multiple accounts for voting purposes too. It could be anything like that. I do think the demographic of the show will have changed slightly since the early series, just like I think the demographic of the posters on here has changed a bit too.. |

I don't love him, don't need any more kids, in-laws or grandchildren and just like his dancing. I don't know why that's difficult to understand...IMO he's the best this year.

Well I'm in my dotage (or at least that's how I feel atm)
I had never heard of TW and have no need for a new Son in Law ,Sons or Grandchildren.Got them all thanks.![]() When this series started I thought that Peter Andre was a shoe-in, I did not mind him at all but loved Carol,Jeremy,Anita and quite liked Georgia and Jay. Then came week 3 and that Jive............Loved it, it gave me goose bumps and I watched it over and over and many more of his dances since. He is wonderful and has such a lovely personality to go with it as well.So I don't fit in with your demographic as many others have also said.

Why does there always have to be some alterier motive for liking a contestant? Why can't people just like a contestant because they do?
To add to the comments, I'm 26. I knew who Jay was. I like the odd The Wanted song but I wouldn't call myself a fan. I wouldn't call him ugly but I don't go to bed dreaming about him. I just think he's a wonderful dancer. |

Good luck to ALL the remaining contestants I say!! You started the blinking thread on Jay, we answered your post. It's usually how a discussion board works. Why would we wish Kellie well, for example, when you gave an in depth "theory" on Jay. Of course we wish them all well, but that's not what you asked and now you're shifting the goalposts to the old " we want to mother him" chestnut because the answers didn't go the way you thought. I have enough trouble mothering the one ive got, I don't want another one and his mother is doing a fine job all on her own. |

I think if Anton's partner were just a smidge better and more importantly, seemed to be getting propped by the judges, that Katie and ANTON could take Jay in the final. It may still be possible - I'll be watching to see if they start presenting Jay more negatively in the VTs and giving him negative comments. It's interesting that what are likely to be Katie's best dances have been held to the end.
I know Robin said the pros get to choose the dance - but that wasn't the case for Tristan. He suggested a paso that he particularly wanted to do with Jamelia, and he'd worked on it, but the producers said no. So it isn't always true that it's solely the pro's choice - which suggests the producers were happy for Katie to have her best dances at the end, as well as Anton obviously wanting that as well.

I'm over 40, never heard of The Wanted (but don't think Jay's the singer) and I'm indifferent to Jay. I expect him to win and accept this as a foregone conclusion but I will vote Katie anyway.

Why does it matter anyway?
![]() My only reason for wanting him to win is I think he is a fabulous dancer and is more skilled than the others. Of course I have that opinion because I'm a nubile, teenage nymphomaniac. ![]()

They never should have allowed internet voting. There are just too many petty little kids who are going to cast at least three votes each to skew the voting without having to pay for it. I have seen how the little um, darlings, plead poverty when it comes to paying for anything nowadays.

I'm a female in late middle age, hardly ever listen to music, was vaguely aware of The Wanted and was determined NOT to be beguiled by the cute ex-boyband member.
And then I saw Jay the Caveman, shaking with nerves, but still articulate and well mannered, and very funny too. At that time I didn't care if he couldn't put one foot in front of the other, I was going to vote for him for however long his journey lasted (and tbh I didn't think it was going to last very long). I have a son, thank you very much. Don't need another one. My ovaries are dead (probably TMI) Jay is just Jay, imo the best dancer (now) and a very nice young man. If he wins, I will be delighted. If he doesn't, so what? He will have given it his best shot. All the semi-finalists have their merits, most of them deserve to win. It's not a runaway certainty by any means. |

Besides us oldies are quite capable of making an on line vote and the fact that it's free is a big incentive. |

I'm 39, never heard of the Wanted, but I've liked all 3 of Aliona's non-duffer partnerships, so I think that's where my slight bias comes from.
I did like Helen and Jay equally, and I like Georgia too, but Jay is edging ahead. |

I'm starting to feel sorry for Jay... There is something bitchy about Aliona. I reckon she beats him when he doesn't get the dance right
