My goodness what fantastic songs Katie has

Wow, Kellie has amazing songs! I'm actually really looking forward to and excited for her rumba! This could be her week! If the performances are as good as they look on paper (and with Kellie they usually are) she could well avoid the Dance off altogether! Here's hoping! I want Kellie in the final!

All the songs sound really good, except for Anita's salsa which doesn't seem to have any recognisable rhythm.

Katie's could be real crowd pleasers - I really hope she pulls both dances off as I think she will get through to the final if she does and it looks like the producers want her there. I was also wondering who would sing O Mio Babbino Caro - I would've thought it would need a specialist.

Love Jay's VW music as Don Juan de Marco used to be one of my favourite films.

They are good songs - well I like them anyway, especially the Waltz

It was performed only in semi-finals between series 4 and 7, paired with a ballroom dance 8 times and with a latin dance 4 times.

From series 8 onwards, it was introduced earlier in the series, along with charleston. Even though both are 'speciality' styles (so are salsa and American smooth, to be honest), to keep the numbers even, charleston is generally lumped in with 'latin' and Argentine tango with 'ballroom'. Since then, the only person to do Argentine tango with another ballroom dance in the semi-final is Dani Harmer (and that's arguably due to the last-minute change to make it a 4-couple final - most people at the time assumed they'd save it to be their 'new' dance in the final, before the format changed).

I'm really excited for Georgia now - proper AT music and a beautiful song by the Corrs is a win-win for me!

Interesting stuff about Jay's Charleston on ITT, apparently it will have a modern style and judging by Aliona's comments, it will be a fun dance but with no gurning! I think I might like this.

Okay I only know one song from all of these so I'm an awful judge!

I was gonna say it was a show of my age but the only one I know is New York, New York and I'm 20 so it's definitely not that!

All tracks that they play at competitions are instrumental so I don't think that should matter too much.

Both charleston songs are really more tap than charleston. But both great songs. Here's Ann Miller in all her glory. I think Katie could wear something based on this dress with her great legs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WS_YAKZH3lw

I think the most interesting contrast will be New York New York and Face the Music and Dance. To me, while not exactly the same, they've got a similar sort of old style big band American song book appeal. Kellie will have lifts (and Anita may too knowing Gleb ). I think Anita has more natural pzazz (no idea on spelling on that) but that's very arguable, I know.

Georgia and Jay have both got VWs. Georgia has the better song to me, but not by much.

Hopefully Kellie and Kevin will do a simple pared back rumba without too much setting and story - I don't feel I've seen that from them yet, and the song seems to suggest that, so that's good, I think.

Was just wondering if O Mio Babbino Caro could fit a waltz, and lo and behold it appears. Could be a showstopper (QUICK ANTON, STICK IN ALL THE PIVOTS YOU CAN, GET THOSE 10S).

Who knows, she might even get a decent dress again!

Well a) it doesn't work that way ... if the song doesn't seem right, people won't blame the couple, b) often Dave Arch sort of Strictlyfys the music .. so it'll probably appear more salsaish!, c) Gleb is probably not choreographing a salsa anyway and d) voters are usually set in their ways by now and vote for their faves regardless.

It is a tune widely used in Zumba classes but Samba ....like you not so sure.

Like last week giving them a Tango style track for an AT. Ridiculous.

I'm sure they'll pull it off again!

I'm just relieved GG haven't got Puccini. Gio would *have* to 'sing' it, wouldn't he?

There doesn't seem to be a crappy theme getting in the way, so maybe her outfits will be decent. I hope Kevin goes for simple and effective for a change.

My first thought too. After all, it's one of the best known arias for an operatic soprano. I must admit, the most familiar to me are Maria Callas, Victoria de los Angeles and Kiri Te Kanawa (because it's the one used in A Room With A View).

I think I may invest in some ear defenders before the weekend.

Ooooh! Thanks so much for the information.

Oh My Beloved Father - I like that it will suits Anton and Katie's waltz. A bit of a tear jerker.

Kellie and Kevin - I very much like their music choices.

VW, normally scores very high marks and Anita has to skip a VW (Ballroom) and others are skipping Latin (hard). They are really gunning for Anita.

Well fingers crossed on that . As a non dancer but watcher I often prefer the most simple routines . I know we're almost at the finish line and everyone is adding all the whistles and bells to impress the judges, but where rumba is concerned it rarely pays off . The best ones I've seen have kept to basics but done it well . Sometimes less really is more .
I agree on the dance off prediction for kellie , but against georgia .
