I think that team GG have worked on keeping the length in Georgia's neck even though her shoulder creep still appears. As someone of a similar height to her I identify with these as issues and can imagine them besetting me were I to dance in a ballroom hold.”
Not commenting on how it was danced ( Jay/Aliona), but the routine when it was in hold, was very nice with readable timing and authentic Foxtrot groups. I never like it when they break hold, but many do on the show. There should be no gimmicks or flashiness in Foxtrot. In competitive Foxtrot the choreo should come from the side to the centre and back out to the side, back into the centre, out to the side etc. When I had some lessons with the current British Pro Champions, they said it should flow like a river, in and out, smoothly gliding around the floor. A very good description I think. Quick jerky movements are out of place in this dance.
When there is a height difference, the man must lower his centre of gravity to match or nearly match the lady. Perferably the dancers are of the same or similar height. There should be no tension in the shoulders and dancers will use their very strong back muscles to hold their backs up to the man, the shoulders are just rolled down and held This is SO much harder than it sounds. This has to kept throughout each dance for a long time. It is important to keep the length in the neck, there is always a feeling of strength coming up through a strong spine, through the neck and out through the top of your head.Stretch, stretch and more stretch.
