The Peoples Operater Slashing Allowence
BBunter
08-12-2015
Just got an email from the peoples operator http://www.thepeoplesoperator.com/ telling me my standard £11.99 deal which included 1,000 mins, unlimited texts and 3 gig of data is being downgraded a bit....

New deal is 100 mins, 100 texts and 1 gig of data for the same £11.99

They obviously had a business plan to get as many customer in as possible and then nerf the deal. This is a company that brands itself an "Ethical Network" as it donates to charities.

What is ethical about slashing this contract.

I will be leaving before this comes in to effect.

Maybe to do with them leaving EE and launching 4G using Three?

I wouldn't touch this bunch with a barge-pole.

They are allegedly financial backers of the Labour party and also share your information with an organisation called Mass1,, registered at the exact same address. if you don't believe me check the terms, they then use this for marketing voting and polling due to their Labour party links.

The owner of the network was accused of "aiding a dirty tricks campaigns during industrial disputes", including giving free calls and texts to strike committees and encouraging political union activities.

They will use your data for quote "research, surveying, polling, general campaigning, and engaging with you, including sending you messages (email or SMS) for these purposes on our, or a third party's behalf". They will process your data trying to anonymize it, but using it for research purposes, and you agree to this in the terms.

If you give permission *(which you may do by default. as agreeing to the terms is probably a mandatory checkbox) they will also sell your information to 3rd parties for marketing purposes.

They made a £2.3M loss in the last set of accounts and have a charge on them from Barclays's bank for security as they have taken out a big loan to launch an MNVO in the US on T-Mobile, despite never making a profit in the UK and only having 69,000 subscribers.

How they can make a loss of £33.33 per subscriber during the year god knows, Knowing what happened to Ovivo customers and others I personally wouldn't risk it.

The Labour and Union links are what makes them attractive.

As long as people know what they're getting into I don't mind. It is only fair to point out what they are helping fund though and that they may have details shared with political organisations affiliated with Unite, the Labour party and the TUC.

I won't go anywhere near a company that supports the party that wants to destroy this country's security and economy.

Yep I would want nothing to do with any political supporting company.

However as MVNO'S go I think serious players only really are Tesco, Virgin and BT mobile

Thanks for your replies.

Lets see how easy it is to get PAC codes for my 4 numbers.

I imagine most companies support the Conservatives, them bring in laws designed to nearly kill of the point of all unions.

TPO will be like any company, pricing to make a profit long term. It is why many of us shop around.

I'm not anti-union (though I dislike megaunions and how they control and prop up a major political party) but I don't see why that's an attraction?

I'd be just as wary of TPO for Labour as I would be of that MVNO whose owner is a big Conservative donor

and for many others will be the complete opposite.

Still it's probably no worse than my Green Party SIM only contract that gives unlimited mins/txt/data but is only compatible with solar powered phones so in reality I can only use it for 8 mins a day unless it's mid summer
