Why is Britney's album Britney Jean disliked by fans?
I can remember reading a while ago when Britney Jean was released, that fans really didn't like it. In fact many found it Britney's first disappointing album but why is this?
I thought it was a great album. There was some filler like Tik Tik Boom but there were some excellent standout tracks like 'It Should Be Easy', 'Til It's Gone', 'Body Ache' and 'Don't Cry'. The production was excellent, and vocally Britney was stronger and less edited than previous albums. Pretty Girls was a disappointment for me. I can't wait to see what Album 9 brings... |

one name.......... will.i.am
I am the biggest Britney fan and have been for 14/15 years now but it took me a few listens to 'like' BJ and even so, its the last Britney album I would think to play. The funny thing is, the last song on the standard tracklist 'Don't Cry' is actually my favourite Britney song ever. But on the whole, apart from Don't Cry and Perfume [I like a few of the other songs too but not as much], its a very weak album. Making will.i.am executive producer was a MASSIVE mistake. I genuninely don't get why so many people in the music industry are so desperate to work with him. Britney said in an interview he continuiningly makes music sound fresh and different. I think he does the complete opposite. He makes music that sounds so robotic and exactly the same. when I read a while ago that he didn't even know Britney was back in the studio, I thought 'Thank god for that' I know I am in the minority here but I love Pretty Girls. I think its a fun song and much better than work b----. I'm excited for album #9. I just want a fun, pop/rnb album like In The Zone or Circus |

We were initially promised a "personal album", but got shafted with EDM trash. Britney's vocals on the record are awful and in certain she heavily relies on her background vocalist. It's her worst album. Only good songs are Work Bitch, Perfume and Passenger.

Because it's rubbish. All the talk of a 'personal' album and then we get Work B*tch as a lead single.
I actually don't mind Work B*tch & Perfume but Britney Jean as an album is awful. Pretty Girls was bad as well. |

Because most of Britney's vocals on it are sung by Myah Marie.
and it's not very good. |

I've been a fan of Britney for over 10 years and I really like the album. It's not my favourite but I don't understand why it's so disliked. I don't think it's half as bad as some people think it is.

For me it simply cannot be defended it was poor on almost every level. We were promised this personal album and a collection to rival Blackout, instead it was sub-par generic dross with much more filler than killer. Even her weakest albums have something about them Circus for instance had this weird, creepy wonky pop feel to it whereas BJ was just meh.
Also following on from Femme Fatale which ranks as one of her best it showed even more just how poor it was. The production sounded dated, the whole project half hearted and after years of revies staying she was absent from her own records it finally felt like it on Britney Jean, for a personal album where was Britney. Overall It is her only album i never return to, and frankly it is better left forgotten. It really is and I cannot stress it but it is bloody awful to the etxreme. |

I reckon general record buyers would like it due to its production, I think it's more the hardcore fans that don't like it.
It was personal though. So many songs about a bad breakup, Femme Fatale was a great album but the themes were hardly personal whereas they were on BJ. For me it will remain a mystery why it's hated. The production sounds modern to me. |

A lot of us fans don't like it because of will.i.am. It seems rushed and cobbled together in the wake of Scream & Shout being successful. It has a few decent songs but other than that it's not that good. We were promised a Blackout 2.0 and personal album but got this instead. Work Bitch is my catchphrase though and I use it on my lazy friends at college
We have a lecturer who can be a bit strict (but is nice and likeable ) and I always joke that in order to do well in her class you have to work bitch

It's quite simply one of the worst pop albums of the decade, awful vocals that aren't even Britney's some of the time, terrible production including glitches, lame use of vocal effects, all over the place and incoherent tracklist. I could go on tbh, not just Britney's worst album, but one of the most unlistemable albums of our time.

I think it was just flat overall, the first 3 tracks started what I thought would be a promising album, after that its quality declines pretty sharply, it lacks atmosphere, a theme, and the songs just aren't any good.
I wanted to love it, but sometimes you need to accept in pop music an artist is surely bound to have one or two crap albums unless they come in constant succession, I think most artists who have been around 10+ years have made a few missteps with albums. Even the greats. I'm confident Britney will make another good album. |

I love "Got til it's Gone" "passenger" and "body ache" . Her duet "chillin" with her sister is sweet too. I like the album for what it is. Good pop music. I like "alien" but wish it didn't use auto tune.

It's awfulness lies in production for me
It actually pained me that this would be the first album I would never ever buy from Britney. I own all her albums and she never lets me down at all. But i simply would not even pay 1p for this utter tripe. I know sales are not everything but this was one example of an album that sold poorly because it was a poor album. |

I think we should move on from BJ now, I think her team know we weren't impressed, since will.i.am doesn't seem to be going anywhere near the next album, she's been working with some top people this time around, i.e. people who are not will. I think she's invested in this next album more than she has been in a long while. I'm of the opinion that the next album whenever it comes will more than make up for the travesty that was Britney Jean.

TBH ADZPOWER it couldn't get much worse than BJ, I think your right though the negative/lukewarm response has galvanised her and her team to get her form. Think it was a lesson as well, she can no longer rely on core fans to lap up whatever she offers. But your right let us move on and forget the travesty that was Britney Jean and that P***s poor era.
