Do any networks still offer *proper* mini sim cards?

Hi, do any of the networks still offer proper mini sims, rather than the combo type that fall apart so easily?

I want to bring an old non smartphone back to life as a spare....

Talk mobile provided what you call a proper mini sim to my old man last year. I had to trim it down myself to fit the iPhone 4s I got him to replace his old phone. I. Sure O2 must do one 2 as they have nearly 50% of customers still not on smart phones...

Vodafone do not.

The new combi SIMs are ok though aren't they?
They clip back together very well now. Good enough to go into most older phones.

I think combo sims are very fiddly and frankly a bit pants.

I wonder how older users with basic phones go on.

Older user with basic phones will put the combi sim in the phone and then forget about it. You are creating an issue where there isnt one.

I find they are fine.
Once you've split them apart, the trick to getting them back together is to put the largest part on a flat surface and then the mini and the nano will just clip right back in one after the other when you press down on them.
If you try to do it holding them it's a pain in the a***

No I think it is nano and micro sims that are creating an issue where there wasn't one.

Mini sims worked just fine.

I fear it is too late to turn the clock back on micro sims, but I never intend to buy a phone with a stupid tiny nano sim.

I recently got a Delight SIM which I think matches your criteria. To use it as a micro I needed to snap it out of the mini, in the same way that the mini snaps out of the full size SIM (which is credit card sized).

There are two styles of micro to mini adapters I have used. The better ones have a sticky base to make it easier to locate and retain the micro SIM in place.

I've got a few test sims that I regularly take apart and put back together to use in all 3 sizes and find it hassle free, if you have 2 hands and a flat service it's something anyone should find easy to do...

I refer you to a previous comment that sums up this issue:

Not everyone had two hands mind you. And even though I do, I still find it tricky because both my co ordination and eyesight are shit.

I wonder if anyone else has this problem and how have you solved it? Gluing the sim permanently together maybe?

In the nicest way possible the problem is your eyesight and coordination rather than a general problem with combi-sims.

I'm guessing the issue arises because you want to swap a SIM between handsets more than once? ( Because if it was an infrequent or once only occurrence the solution is easy - get someone to help as you would with any other fiddly job)

If you are going to glue the SIM together then that will also be fiddly as you will want the smallest amount possible to prevent the SIM getting stuck in the handset. My advice would be a tiny drop of , put the SIM back together and let it go off for as long as possible before inserting in the phone.

Yes. Basically that's the reason.

I might try that later. Just wondering if anyone else has tried it.

The smaller the SIM, the more room there is for other things in the phone. Given that the only difference between the different sizes is the amount of excess plastic used, it makes sense for the nano SIM to be the universal size going forwards.

Would you rather have a phone that can take two nano SIMs, or one that can take just a single mini or micro SIM? Two nano SIMs occupy just slightly more area than a single micro SIM, and a lot less area than a single mini SIM. You can even fit two nano SIMs plus a micro SD card in roughly the area used by a mini SIM. That to me would be ideal.

I think it's a pretty dangerous idea, if you really have to then use a good quality superglue and use a tiny amount. Get a little on the edges of the adapter and then clip the Nano in. Make sure it's perfectly flush and allow to dry. Make sure there aren't any lumps on the join before putting it into the phone.

Just get a decent adapter. They are not expensive. I use Simdevil and I haven't seen anything better on the market.
