Nope, didn't get the one, I was on the wrong track all along. I thought it was the hostel owner who shot her. I thought it was suspicious that he walked past one window to smash the second, and that him smashing it down was to hide the signs that he'd tampered with that window to escape the locked room. Not sure how that would have explained the towel though.
And yeah, I agree with Vetinari, I don't think she would have looked so naturally slumped if she'd been slid on the towel. Surely her shorts would have ridden up as the towel slid out? Also, how did her blood get onto the bathroom floor but not onto the towel? |

... It's never been the greatest kind of detective/crime series when it comes to plots and story lines. But it retains that feelgood factor which few series can match. ...

I think they need to keep an eye on the plots to stop them being too simplistic - it's a good show but too much of the same formula can feel a little predictable so that could probably withstand a slight adjustment, but I'm not sure how they would be able to do that without killing the enjoyment, some of which wouldn't exist without that formula.!
- did it happen earlier/later - who was the last person to see alive - is there poison involved etc Who cares, it's the blueprint of the show, it doesn't bother me, roll on the next series.

Yes, why can't they have "normal", straightforward murders: drug gangs, robbery/murder, assault gone wrong, manslaughter, murder / suicide? (Ans: because the tourist board for the islands would never allow a "realistic" depiction of the place)
It's fortunate for the writers that they don't appear to have any forensic capability available. Otherwise they would have found no GSR on the victim but a clear indication on the killer. Plus the fibres from the pillow would have indicated the m/o immediately. The who thing could have been over in 5 minutes ![]() But all murder mystery type shows are getting that way. |

As I said earlier I haven't watched the end of this, but I did notice the big disco amp speaker on a table near the shower room. I'd decided quite early on, it'd be another "killed earlier" scenario and that maybe the recorded gunshot was broadcast by the speaker.
Was it? |

Anyway, did anyone else feel Sally Bretton was woefully underused in this episode and it felt more like she was being introduced for a potential recurring character in the next series?

I thought that the towel had been used to muffle the gunshot, rather than a pillow.

I only dip into it on occasion. ...........................
. The actors often look bored out of their minds. And Humphrey never gets tanned enough! Living so long in that climate does tan redheads in the end, at least on arms and legs!! No insect bites either! |

Yep, I was looking forward to seeing her in her swimmy, I suppose it was a good gig for her though, filming in Guadeloupe.
Different for the main actors of course, which is why Ben Miller quit, but I'm sure it's still better than filming in Britain on a wet and cold location shoot. |

I've always thought this was a good acting gig for the actors (well mainly the guest actors). They do a bit of work in a beautiful, hot place. It's basically a holiday for them.

Always a good question with Agatha Christie. Any couple, allegedly strangers, who were constantly arguing and insulting each other always turned out to be lovers, involved in a conspiracy. Not necessarily (but usually) the murderers. Just one of the clichés she used time after time.
I demand her books be cancelled, they're not as good as they were when that Mr Poirot was a young lad.

Been a while since I've watched any Agatha Christie, but another weakness was coming up with good surnames for characters. I think she quite often picked up a tube map and picked a station at random, for a surname or Lord so and so.
He did it. |

Nice to see Humphrey getting a girlfriend. Might have been a good way to wrap the whole thing up, to be honest.
But I'm sure I'll tune in to the next series. Maybe the presumed change in Humphrey's circumstances will freshen things up a bit. |

Be nice to let Humph have a girl in his life, frankly am bored by the amount of cops who have dysfunctional private lives.
And good to know this is back next year..... |

Humph's girlfriend could become the Joyce Barnaby of the show, every time she starts a new hobby or activity there is a murder at it

I doubt many people even know where this show is filmed and getting to the French Overseas departments is not handy from the UK anyway, I don't think this is supposed to be a tourist board advert for Guadeloupe.

Guadeloupe is a major destination for tourists from metropolitan France although with it being EU there is no duty free shopping like other parts of the Caribbean. Seasonal flights also service the island from the USA and Canada.
