Cottage Pie surely?

I wonder if the budget would stretch to a trip to the mainland, other island or UK in an investigation for a bit of variety though we never even see the rest of the island so perhaps not. It amuses me that they seem to be the only people who are able to get a prompt response when they ring the UK police.

What mainland? Its a Caribbean island, all around are other islands, not a "mainland".

Mainland can just mean a larger island. The main island of Orkney (and I think Shetland) is known as 'Mainland'. I think they have referred to Guadeloupe for specialists services and presumably prisoners will be sent there. Obviously complicated by the filming taking place there but the island is big enough to use a different part. Just thinking of a way of bring in some variety.

Yes, lots of whodunit dramas end up with that problem. The solution is to either to avoid well-known actors, or go the other way and stuff the cast full of them, like they often do on shows like Midsomer Murders.

Anyway, I had this DiP story solved by half way though... Cedrik was dying from his health problems with not long left (hence giving Dwayne the gold chain), and it was a mercy killing by his girlfriend, after his goodbye-poker-party with all his closest friends. Completely wrong.

I really liked this episode - I agree that DJJ really shone, with the others standing back a little. In particularly, I enjoyed KM as the supportive boss/colleague/friend, in serious mode pretty much throughout.

I was just pleased that they have finally produced an episode where all the protagonists were island born locals. It alleviated the rather claustrophobic feel of an town where a succession of English/Europeans arrive and murder/get murdered.

Also nice to see the cat being the focus of attention on the police side.

Got the culprit from the start, still enjoyable though.

And nice to see a recurring character for JP to get hit teeth into.

Nice of them to put Chardonnay in a bikini though.

Surprised that an actor of the calibre of Robert Daws was cast as the murder victim with virtually no lines.

I really enjoyed tonight's episode, although I suspect the usual brainboxes will say it was was too obvious.

Even I had my suspicions of the who and how and I'm usually rubbish.

Enjoyed tonight. For me this is about the ensemble cast rather than a serious whodunit.

As soon as the receptionist corrected the aunt over a 10 minute discrepancy (02:10 to 02:00), it was clear that that was important. When we found out that CCTV discs were changed at 02:00, it was obvious. And 45 minutes still to go.

Same here, I remarked upon it at the time. But about halfway through I decided that Wendy Craig had to be there for something and she must have done it. I was wrong, my first guess was right.
What was Wendy Craig there for?

Similar to what happened to Julian Ovenden a couple of weeks ago -murdered in the first 5 mins!

Weak episode compared to last week, guessed it was the hotel guy at the start and that the dead guy was under a false identity. Still nice to look at though.

Amazed at:

1) the excellent wifi access in the beach house

2) the easy access to UK databases including police and passports etc.

3) seeing Wendy Craig again. Very welcome

4) how a tiny island can have an efficient bank branch just round the corner

5) the wonderful views and laid-back lifestyle

6) the shortness of the police sergeant's shorts. Highly commended

Conclusion. I want to live there. How do I get there?

I suspect having splashed out to get Wendy Craig and Robert Daws in the cast there wasn't any money left over for any suspects.

Three has to be the lowest number ever.

Incidentally, last nights murderer was played by Eddie Nestor, whose day job is as Radio London's Drivetime presenter.

Bit short of potential suspects last night. So to say it was obvious isn't that hard.

Increasingly this season is showing the rather glaring issues with the premis.

And that was the major problem with the episode, making for an obvious whodunnit. With just a few more suspects added, it could have been a good one.

My initial thought was the wife of the crook, after he saying he took sleeping pills, implying (in my twisted way) that he wouldnt have been aware if wifey had slipped away and done the deed. Wrong again
