Found it a bit clunky to start with but when the story moves away from Grimsby the last half of the film is a no holds barred riot and downright hilarious.

It's a massive bomb ..
$35 Million Budget (one site claims it was an $80 Million budget) and only opened to a $1.2 million box office in the US. 99% of the overall $8.2 Million worldwide gross is from the UK. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/...id=grimsby.htm |

Gotta say, I found Grimsby very funny. Juvenile, crass, low-grade nonsense...but a few belly laughs along the way!
I subscribe to the Kermode method of reviewing comedies - the six laugh test. Unashamedly, it passed with flying colours!

I loved it.
I thought it was actually a rarity, a funny comedy film. Much funnier than the usual Hollywood dross which passes itself off as comedy. There were so many funny scenes in this film. One of my favourite comedy films on a list which is very short. Which is not an easy feat as most comedy films in my opinion just aren't funny. |

As the year comes to a close this was the funniest film by an absolute mile. It's a shame it's now considered a bomb but I think with home media, streaming etc it'll be remembered a lot more fondly in the coming years.

Watched this the other week on sky cinema - very funny and really bad, equal measures....
found this at the time - audience reaction on US chat show, when they saw a clip - just like me. |

Thought it very poor.
The family stuff was actually best in terms of a certain warmth to it all. But parts of it , like Nobby wanting to watch the match whilst they were drowning in the car, just took idiocy to an unbelievable level. |

Not usually a fan of SBC at all, but I genuinely enjoyed this. Overly crude in places, takes idiocy to new depths... but it does both knowingly and runs with it. Mark Strong makes the whole thing work somehow, and it's generally enjoyable.
Rather fittingly it was also the first time I'd heard Mark Strong do the voiceover in the Vue cinemas, prompting people to turn off their phones
