Anyone know what the dance-off rules are for Semis?

Or even, is there a dance off or is it purely down to public vote?

There is a dance off

There's a dance off and if it works as in previous years, you dance your highest scoring dance

I have a feeling they can choose can't they - sure Mark and Karen last year picked their Rumba because it was their favourite...

Although to be honest they'd be pretty silly not to choose the highest scoring.

Not necessarily... Natalie Gumede danced her lowest scoring dance. It's now personal choice which one you pick.

Of course, for most contestants that's probably a no-brainer and they do the highest, but if you're a mile in front and plummet I figure you can do what you want and get through

Hmm. ..not dancing your highest can be a huge gamble but it paid off for Natalie.
It will be interesting to see what happens tomorrow.

Thanks all.

So there may be a scramble to chance outfits sometime between Saturday and "sunday"

Am i imaginging it, or one year did the judges choose what they had to do for dance off, or am i getting mixed up with the dance choices for final?

So there is a point to spend more time on one dance than the other, and hope to have one great dance for dance off at the risk of your second dance being mediocre

They film it so there are lots of breaks anyway. But yes they will switch outfits if necessary whilst Claudia films the little interviews with the survivors .

It is about time the dance off in the semifinal was axed. Public vote only from this stage.

It is almost impossible for the couple marked the lowest by the judges to avoid the dance off. They need to be most popular with the public to avoid it.

At this stage it is not necessary to save good dancers, they are all good and so the publics choice should go forward to the final.

Yes, but Natalie's lowest scoring dance had scored 39
Patrick and Anya's highest scoring dance was 36 - so even doing that she was still 3 points ahead on first outing.

Re Natalie & her lowest scoring dance! Has it not been the case other years that the judges choose one dance, usually one that they haven't danced so well, then they have the show dance from each contestant, then a break for the public vote, then the three highest scorers compete in a final dance off to their own favourite dance of the series!!

Could be wrong but that's the way I remember it??

Sorry talking bo**ocks, just realised it's the semis you're asking about & I've described the final!! Oops!!

That's for the final, not the semi's

Sorry but I would still rather trust the judges' opinion of who should make the final than the public's!! Just my personal opinion though!

I would suspect they would change into the outfit that they might have to dance a DO in, while they wait "overnight" for the next show.

Surely they just wear the outfit for the dance they want to do in case they're in the dance off.

The only time a costume change would be necessary is if the judges decided after the bottom two announcements, which couple would repeat which dance.

If it was by highest score or by choice of the couple, they could just change into that costume before the results announcement. Even if the judges chose, they could just specify to each couple straight after the main show what dance they wanted to see repeated in the event they are in the dance-off.

For the last two years at least, the couples have started the results show in the outfit for the dance they would perform in the dance-off, should they be there. Jake for instance performed the cha cha first on the live show followed by his V. Waltz, but chose cha cha for the dance-off, and changed in between recordings.

I agree it there shouldn't be a dance off at this stage. It should simply be whoever has the lowest combined votes goes. I'm sure in earlier series there was no 'choosing' by the judges who went through to the final

This is one of many gripes I have with the dance off...

Series 1, 2, 3, 4, 8 and 9 had no dance-off in the semis by design (although series 8 and 9 did have a double elimination). The dance-off in the semis for series 6 was cancelled at the last minute because there was no way for Tom to escape it. The dance-off in the semis for series 7 was scrapped during the week beforehand, because of the scandal the previous year. Interestingly, if the dance-off had been in place, and the votes remained the same, Chris would (barring fire or flood or Ali breaking a hip) have gone home, leaving a Ricky vs Ali final. Series 5, 10, 11, 12 and now 13 all have had a dance-off in the semis. Every single time the person at the bottom of the judges leaderboard went home.

I suspect Anita might prove you wrong this week. It's quite easy to see a situation this week with Kellie (or Georgia)/Katie/Anita at the bottom of the leader board and the public vote being ordered Anita/Katie/Georgia.

We could even see the mathematically unlikely ordering of Georgia/Kellie/Katie/Anita on the leader board with the public vote turning it round completely, sending Kellie and Georgia into the dance off.

There is a dance off and it works the same as normal. the couple can choose whatever dance they want it doesnt have to be their higher scoring dance. as unlikley as it is to happen i would like to see all the couples get the same score and then we can see what eeryones public vote would be like. As much as i want Kanton in the final im nervous that their dances and vote wont be enough to save them and they will be out in the DO against anyone apart from Anita and possibly at a push (debatable) they may be able to squeeze in against Kelle& Kevin? or should Katie be safe this week
